So, been thinking about the new Tau, and I'll be trying this out:

Destroyer Lord, 2+, MSS 160

(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100
(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100
(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100

(6) Wraiths, 1x Whip coil 220

Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90
Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90
Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90

Commander, Iridium battlesuit, Onager gauntlet, Neuroweb jammer, Vectored retrothrusters, Airburst fragmentation projector, 2x flamer 147

Riptide, Ion accelerator, SMS, Interceptor 190

(6) Fire Warriors 54
(10) Kroot 60

(4) Pathfinders 44

(3) Broadsides, 3x High yield missile pod, 3x Interceptor 210

= 1850

The Necron part of the army is a fairly standard template I usually start all my Cron lists out with. It has mobile scoring, lots of shooting, and a respectably CC unit in the Wraiths+DLord. Sometimes I'll also have another 6 Wraiths, and usually Immortals in the Scythes, but I had to trim points to fit in the Tau detach.

Tau seem to actually be a VERY nice fit with Necrons. The Riptide in particular is a godsend, bringing you a frigging scary blast, on a durable platform, something Necrons just don't have. Nice

The Broadsides bring some more str7, are fairly efficient at infantry removal with SMS and are pretty durable. They also add to target saturation with the Wraiths/ABarges/Riptide (all require high str to kill effectively). The troops are just cheap scoring to grab backfield objectives, and the Pathfinders can try and put out some lucky markerlight hits on Flyers or whatnot (hide them t1 so you don't give out first blood).

The Commander is a bit of a wild card, but I think he's got quite a bit of potential, he's more of a scalpel than a hammer. He removes weak infantry well with his flamers and large blast, he's hard to kill with 4w t5 2+, and has fair mobility with his jetpack, HnR and fleet. He can put Gets hot on your opponents units (Shoota boyz anyone?) and has his supermega punch at str10 ap1 to smack something juicy. I figure either jumping him up the field (if there's enough LOSblock) or deepstriking him into your opponents half to feth around with their backfield scoring units will be pretty annoying for a lot of armies, as for his cost he's really pretty hard to remove without ap1/2. If facing lots of str8+ he can of course just join the Broadsides to catch bullets for them (and give them HnR )

Thanks for reading, and C&C welcome, as always =)

I'm also a Necron player and have been looking at the Tau. However, I can't seem to find anything in the Tau which I really need for my playstyle.

The main advantages I can see are the longer range guns plus the Riptide (but that's mainly because of the model tbh).

So with that background I'd suggest that you ditch the broadsides, pathfinders and the kroot (not near my rulebook but I think detachments only need 1 troop?) and add another riptide.

Honestly, with 3 anni barges and 3 nightscythes, more Str 7 is the last thing I think your list needs.

my 2c!

Well, Necrons don't need allies although the Riptide is a tempting choice. Besides this model, i'd add 10-12 Fire Warriors led by a Fireblade or Aun'va.

Yeah, the Riptide was mainly what I wanted to include. Been playing with Chaos allies w/ a Heldrake for a bit now, and Crons really like having a scary template/blast. The Riptide is cool in that it also threatens 2+ multiwound guys (Paladins) and is always on the field and can reach anywhere on the board, which the Heldrake can't quite do all the time. Granted, the Riptide needs markerlight support, and still doesn't kill infantry quite as effectively..

The Broadsides can be swapped to 6 Wraiths for the exact same points total, I'd probably actually rather do that.

You can only have 1 of each choiuce in an Allied army, barring troops. Meaning no second Riptide unfortunately
