I'm considering using a C:SM librarian (termie armor, force staff) with GoI to move around either a termie squad or maybe a sternguard squad. since librarians are level 1 psykers, that means I can either gate *or* use another power in any given turn. I'm wondering if it's worth giving him the epistolary upgrade so that he can use a second power in the same turn he used gate instead of just plinking away with a stormbolter. it's a lot of points, but it would allow him to do more than just act as a unconventional (and risky) transport.

thoughts?

Usually its a good idea. Vortex of Doom in particular is a decent spell for a TDA libby.

Too expensive for vanilla marines. For Dark Angels they only pay 100 points for a lvl 2...so expect it to become cheaper in the next book.

Wait until the new codex when it will become much cheaper (like everything else)

I don't think I've ever actually coughed up the 50 points, so I'd say no, not worth it.

When your combo requires two powers, such as gate and nullzone, it's well worth the points spent.

Ah, I plan on just using a jump libby to cast my nullzone.

Well worth the 50 points.

Too expensive. 50pts is a lot.

And not that often will you be in a good situation to cast both to full effect.

I play BA but find it's rarely worth the investment.

Well, BA are a bit of a special case here. We have powers that get cast of the opponents' turn, namely shield of sanguinius, so we can really stretch the utility of a level 1 libby. That being said, other than null zone/gate, how much utility does that second warp charge really have?

It also gives the epistolary access to rule book 2 charge powers. Against horde armies, I like to swap for biomancy to try and get enfeeble or endurance. Also allows you to use invisibility, which is a great TEQ buff against armies without a lot of invulnerable saves.

You may want to cast a power and activate your force weapon in the same turn.
