Hi guys,
Thinking about getting a grav-tank, and I have my eyes set on a FW Warp Hunter. What do you think is the best Eldar Grav-Tank? Do you have any Warp Hunter tips? As ever, any help is appreciated.

Warp Hunters are amazing. Wounding on a 2+ and ignoring armor and cover, with an option to automatically hit, is terrifyingly good against pretty much all infantry. And against vehicles you can auto-hit and have a good chance of doing damage. All for a really low price tag. TBH, with Hornets in fast attack making war walkers redundant the Warp hunter is the default Eldar heavy choice.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Fantastic tank. Make sure you take enough armour and threats or it becomes first blood every game. It is so good any opponent will target it first and fire till it is dead.

So take it in an army with lots of threats? That makes a whole lot of sense.

Yes, they are. However, due to the lack of cost-effective AV12 saturation in eldar they are tough to use. They often get targeted and destroyed by turn 2. However, they can often cause some pretty massive disruption or damage in that time. I remember reserving 2 vs a drop pod army, coming on, and killing 16 grey hunters in a turn. Then the remaining 4 used the last remaining melta and some melee krak grenades to destroy both.

They are especially good when you add in an ally with armor. A hammerhead from Tau brings anti-armor that explodes vehicles, giving you a nice little area to shoot at and brings more armor. Hornets can work, but often go down to medium arms fire and arent very durable for the cost.

A member of my 40k gaming group uses two of them in 1000pt and larger battles. He has had some success with them but they are still only an av12 tank and after the first firing of the weapon they are taken out quickly enough. One thing you need to consider is that this is a FW unit and not a regular Eldar Codex unit even if it has that little (40k approved) stamp!. In good sportsmanship and as a point of honor you really should ask your opponent if it ok to use such FW units. I say this as there was quite a brew up when the Warp Hunter was first used in a large multi player game as it was not revealed that it was an FW item. If your opponent is ok with it then good luck and let us know how it does.

Let Khaine giude your hand my brother.

Less crying, more playing. Trust me, you'll feel better in the end.

I used mine back in 5th. After the first game I used it, it never survived past the turn it came on. My 2 pulse Hornets always managed to fluff armour penetration rolls (out of 6-7 games total, they managed 2 successful armour penetration rolls. The first one was stunning a GK dreadnought, which it later magicked away despite RoWa, and the second against the rear armour a vindicator, stunning it (yes, 8 Pulse Laser shots to the AV10 rear of a Vindicator managed a single result). They were both glances.) so they were never really targeted a lot. My dual Prisms were ignored in favour of the Hunter, as were my 3 or 4 Wave Serpents.

Killing my Warp Hunter became an unofficial objective. :(

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

The Warp Hunter is straight up BETTER than anything in the current Eldar codex but 4 things limit me from using them;

1) actually spending the money on them.

2) waiting on a new Eldar codex .

3) much more enjoying using Dark Eldar as my main for 6th.

4) Warp Hunter is not actually in the codex. I'll cheese if I can but, only with stuff that's in the codex; I'd just rather not cross that bridge y'know?

And a lot of points...which doesn't leave much left to spend on scoring units.

With that level of awesome you need not these scoring units.

On a serious note they are better in a corsair list where falcons can be taken as dedicated transports and troops can be made deep strikers to take objectives.

If you want them to survive use barrage from behind LoS blocking terrain until the enemy comes close then use torrent mode. The barrage mode is still better than most other options.

The problem with the FW units really is that they like any unit need to be run in multiples and/or with proper support. Running multiple FW units is extremely expensive.

FW technically no longer needs opponent permission but it is definitely a good courtesy to let the opponent know just like you should tell them which units from which codex you are using. I normally list the source for everything on my army lists but I am a scientist so I reference everything I write [1].

Do not forget that you can run dire avenger/wave serpent and fire dragon/wave serpents with them. If you were already playing mechdar then they will add a much needed shot in the arm. If not mechdar with 3x warp hunters is on the low end of competitive. You could probably win tournaments but it would be very tough.

If you have not already looked at it look at the corsair IA12 list; it is a really cool list with some really fun tactics that can be pulled off. Deepstriking fire dragons are just mind blowing.

I ordered two Warp Hunters a few weeks back. Converting from pound to US dollar, they were 74 cents more expensive than a Fire Prism kit. When I opened the FW shipment, you get a Fire Prism Kit plus the FW resin upgrade. Go in with a few buddies and you can also avoid the shipping charge.

I played one Warp Hunter at a 5 game tourney last weekend and it was a fantastic tank. The trick is to create multiple threats to make it difficult for your opponent's target priority. With Guide, I literally never missed a shot in al 5 of my games and I never lost if prior to turn 3 and survived one entire game.

Best tank currently.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
