So I'm trying to figure out a good way to mark my Cadian Vets as vets with out having to point at them and say veteran squad 20 times a game. So far, the only thing I can think of is to give them the grenade packs, but that is a little hard to spot on the battlefield, and I don't want to feel like I'm trying to hide something. What else could I do? The other thing that I've been looking at is what kind of mount should I use for the Rough Riders? So far the suggestions good and bad have been: cold ones, horses, hellion skyboards, goblin spiders, and marine scout bikes...or to mod segways, but that's been done. I like the bike idea, but would there be a problem with wysiwyg? They are cavalry, and people could easily confuse them for being a bike squad (even though IG doesn't get a bike squad). Thoughts? Opinions? Recipes for really good roast? I'm pretty open.

Paint their shoulder pads a different color.

Pretty much everything has been done as far as mounts for Rough Riders.

Second thing first - bikes have been a pretty common alternative mount for rough riders for quite awhile. Some might have a minor hissy fit, because a bike will be shorter in general than a horse mounted figure...but they will get over themselves.

The vet squads are always problematic. One of the easiest ways is to give them some form of paint scheme that is slightly different from the rest of the troops to indicate they are vets versus regular. Shoulder pads and helmets are ideal locations. You can do head swaps as well and give them all something distinctive like booney hats or berets. Other options are harder to see from 4-5 feet away.

One good way to distingish Vets is killing markings and trophies. If you have a regular opponant ask him if you could snag a few spare heads or a few weapons he might have lying about. Embellishments such as purity seals or peices of parchment also serve to I.D vets on the tabletop.
If you paint your guardsmen to look clean and fresh to the field of battle paint the vets up so they are all dirty. That way it looks like they've been fighting for ages.

I like the idea of purity seals, and i think I could secure enough to mark out several vet squads, combined with the alt colors for the shoulder pads and it should clear up any problems. And if bikes are done that much then that's what I'll be going with. Thanks for the help.

Cruising in my CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

For veteran squads, I once made one for a friend of mine. I gave them gasmasks, modified weapons, and he planned on painting them with a big stripe on each shoulder pad. As for rough riders, I would maybe go with a Cold One. It would be easy to convert, and look nice, too. Plus, they are roughly the same size as the horses.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:
