Amusingly enough, it's probably because it's faithful to the comic book. Both the Men in Black and RIPD were originally indie buddy-cop comics with broadly similar themes.



Though I'm betting Ryan can deliver better deadpan comedy than Will Smith can.

Right now, A rock is a better actor then Will Smith.

Who cares about that Ryan guy? This movie has The Dude in it!

I enjoy The Rock's action films. He's funny enough to deliver a witty line now and then, otherwise he's a more modern Ahnuld Replacement and serves well in that roll.

He can. Just watch Blade 3. Half of his lines were ad-libbed apparently.

Erm am i watching the same trailer? It looks flipping GASH! It also somehow comes off as looking incredibly low budget despite obviously having tens of millions of dollars worth of CGI.

Comparing Ryan Reynolds to Will Smith is just pointless, Will smith is a fantastic actor. Ryan Reynolds has the permanent smirk of a rapist who's got off on a technicality and the comic timing of Tommy Wiseau. He's got sweet washboard abs though.

Will smith still acts like he is some incredibly tough gangster and plays that way.

Have you seen Men in Black or Independence day? He's just really charming and possesses a deft comic touch, not to mention his various plaudits for more serious roles. Are you sure you aren't confusing him for Ice Cube? That's pretty racist dude.
