Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I was actually happy with the first one...I mean, c'mon, it's Thor; never expected much from him in the first place. So I only expect this one to be as rewarding as the first one for me.
I was certain Thor would be awful, and was very pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to see more of him on film. The chemistry between Loki and Thor is just perfect.
More Thor!

Orkeosaurus, on homophobia, the nature of homosexuality, and the greatness of George Takei.
English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.
Yes, Thor is my favourite of the Avenger franchises at the moment. I like to think of Thor, The Avengers and this new one as a trilogy. Chris Pine is good in the lead role, but it's Tom Hiddleston who makes it work.
You don't want to see him lose his hammer, and have to go cross-dressing into a court of magic wielding giants?
I think that would be utterly hilarious, especially Loki hiding in the rafters laughing himself silly.

I thought the first movie was going to be terrible and ended up loving it more than Iron Man. I'll definitely watch the sequel in theatres. I'm hoping Kenneth Brannagh is directing the second movie as well, but I think I read somewhere that they went with a different director.

They canned Dear Old Kenny Branagh (tm)!? This injustice will not stand!
Yeah, I loved Thor too, completely unexpectedly. Seems to be a bit of a theme.

I think a series of movies about proper Thor would be a lot better and a lot funnier than the current movies.
Erm, have you actually watched the current movies?
Sure he was like that in the first one, but that was something he grew out of. Deliberate character development.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

except that it's only in the Marvel version of him that he grows out of thinking with his hammer... in all the myths he never learns that Loki will pretty much always outsmart him, or trick him into doing something stupid.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios
Well yeah, but that's Norse Mythology. I'm not watching this because I wanted an accurate depiction of Norse Mythology.

Certainly not! Frankly pure Norse mythology would get really dark, and really twisted really fast- imagine if they tried to explain Loki's children on screen- a dude into becoming a woman and getting it on with horses, serpents and wolves is probably beyond the realms of anyone's darkest imaginings. Never mind Odin tearing out his optics, and the whole self-hanging for 9 days stunt.
Still, use it for information and update it. Thor running afoul of magic wielding giants, or taking down monsters the size of hills will never get old. Seeing him lobotomize that beastie on Niffelheim was much more satisfying than his last fight with the Destroyer armor.
The technical magic blended with mythology is compelling and unique. The mindset of a hero that absolutely knows he will die, and how, but carries on fighting to do the most good he can in this world is something we don't see often, and could be used to very good effect.

LoL, fair enough- beyond anything Hollywood would be willing to show on the big screen.

Parts of that trailer looked "generic fantasy movie" but other parts looked pretty \m/.
Sounds like this film had some "director" drama, somaybe that is why there is such a big change in style even in the trailer.
In July 2011, Kenneth Branagh, the director of Thor, withdrew from the project. Brian Kirk and Patty Jenkins were considered to direct the film before Taylor was hired in January 2012.

I just started watching the first movie (75% done) and that ist exactly what I was thinking too.
The first movie took what would have been an incredibly awkward character to do and made a decent movie out of it. It wasn't great, but it was fun. And that's about all you need from a Marvel movie.
I give them kudos for at least making Thor fit in the modern world and Avengers setting, while still have hilarious bits showing the world he's from (like when he walks into the pet store asking for a horse or a dog 'big enough to ride').
The only downside was he spent all of what, 3 days in earth in exile? And in that time learned self sacrifice, humility and fell in love (granted, it is Natalie Portman). It wouldn't have been hard to extend it out a little.

Indeed, if there were ever a test for Rule 34, it would be here.

In those three days he was kicked out of his home, stripped of his title, had his buddy (Mjolnir) ignore him, found out this exile would be permanent, and that his dad died. That is a lot to take in, but then add in that he then found out that a lot of it was total crap and that his brother lied to him and that he was also going to try and kill their dad and, well, that is a long 3 days.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
I always thought White Power Superman was kind of lame in the comics (especially when you could have gone with Beta Ray Bill) but I thought the movie was reasonably good, and I'm sort of inclined to see this one in the theater, something I didn't even consider for the last one.
Of course, now after the Avengers I'm sort of locked into that ecosystem, so I feel like I kind of have to watch it anyway. Plus Tom Hiddleston is always a treat to watch, anyway.
Still holding out for a Deathlok movie.
How many movies do you think before someone (presumably Captain America) successfully picks up Mjolnir?
