What happens if you eat an Ork?
And how does they taste like? Chantarells?
Would ork-burgers taste good?

I guess you could eat them.. surely they would be like some kind of.. I dunno, cross between meat and fungus?
Maybe like a stringy steak in a mushroom sauce!

Given the pecularities of Orkoid microbiology probably nothing good happens to you unless you very thoroughly cook it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ork spores actually started to consume your body for biomass.

I think you misunderstood Kain. I wasn't suggesting taking a chomp out of a Tyranid or Lucius the Ethereal. I was suggesting taking a bite out of Orks. I must be hungry since I'm suggesting such a thing.

I'm not sure about eating Orks, but I've read bits about Ork Runtherds eating Grots. They'd probably taste the same.

And I'm saying that given the setting, Ork spores would likely aggressively start to consume anything that ate them to try and turn them into raw material to make new orkoids.

Ork spores aren't as virulent as tyrannoform microorganisms. Some would probably survive the trip through the digestive system, though, and now your sewers are full of orks.

Even if they were edible (which I'm not convinced of, at least for unaugmented humans), why would you WANT to? They're described as... well, unappetizing to say the least. Like the smell of an entire football team with toe fungus infection after an extended game where they had massive amounts of overtime rounds... before they showered but after they stripped down and tossed their socks in a pile. A few of the socks are even bloody. Smell said socks while standing in said room full of said naked sweaty fungus-infected football players. That's an Ork's smell.

Delicious, Nutritious and Fungoid-enriched.
For orks at least.
For anyone else, probably not good. Not all fungi are good to eat

Can you imagine how tough a "Ork" Rancher would have to be...branding them, roping them, and herding them into town..I guess that would be kinda like a mini waagh!
Instead of rawhide..its ORKHIDE! yee-awwh!
Even tougher would be ork rustlers.

Dunno if the fungus would have any effect on humans once cooked, but either way I can't imagine them tasting any good.

That was my first thought as well. IIRC, there are real varieties of fungi that do this to insects, eating them from the inside out. Not sure what would happen to a human.
Even if they were safe to eat, I wouldn't imagine ork "meat" would be very nutritious, due to different chemical makeup. I mean, orks mainly eat... what? Squigs? Other orks?
I would imagine the tastiest dishes would be tau (tender and flaky) or eldar (soft and buttery). Nids would probably taste like lobster, but you run a real risk of poison/acid/being eaten from the inside.

Ork's are not made of meat, they are made of fungus that act's like meat. As such, I would imagine they taste like tofu. Terrible. Like that fake meat for vegetarians who still want to eat meat. Yak.

Depends on the taste. If it tastes like chantarels then the Orks biggest enemy would be Big Chef and his company of chefs that want to make a meal out of any ork and serve it to starving Imperial guardsmen who for their first and only time has a gourmet-meal on their hands. If they taste awfully and are poisonous then there are reason to worry, and maybe they just taste good for a short while like most good mushroom.

Well the most poisonous fungi here on earth is a close match to the chantarel. The poison is slow-working and you then say bye-bye to your kidneys. Poison works in strange ways.

Orks aren't from Earth, so that's not a fair comparison. 40k is filled with examples of venoms, poisons, viruses, and what not that are all far deadlier than anything on Earth. And Orks are the deadliest and most widely successful predators in the 40k galaxy.
Not in our galaxy. In 40k's galaxy.

I'm just telling you how fungi-poison in general works here on earth. And judging by the sample I have seen it seems like the orks can likely absorb poisons from things they eat. That's the sample-size and I prefer to go at what at my hand in stead of inventing something new.

I've one word for the educated masses.. Prions (mad cow dissease for the laymans) Although orks seem to have a genetic immunity to the effects, no garuantee that said 'immunity' is transposed. Either way, between the chemicals, bacteria, genetic disorders, poisonous fungi..Etc etc, no wonder no human has ever eaten them in the fluff...

Despite their fungal origins, they are typically described as behaving (physically) just like normal creatures of meat and bone in the background fiction which informs the setting, and I can't imagine that cooking them would go too far afield of that. If I were writing it? You could get a really terrible fungal infection if you didn't cook it properly, but assuming you cooked it well enough, you'd be fine. (As well as being a damn dirty impure heretic who's gone and poisoned his Emperor blessed form with the flesh of some Xenos filth, but that's neither here nor there. )

well as they are non-earth based genetically engineered life forms, I would say they are inedible for a human. And the spores could well be an issue.
My advice don't try it.
