I know their pretty pants, and over priced for being so pants, low initiative, no useful special rules, and just, well, pants .... but I love the idea of them. Any list builds or tactics that can make a squad of these competitive?

forgeworld just made a new book that has an army that focuses on flayed ones (makes them troops even)

and gives them some new rules so they are better.

based on the book reviews some people have posted they seem good!

Here is a good one i just found for you.

They throw a lot of attacks, are reasonably durable for the points, and Infiltrate.

They can be used to block enemy scout moves and infiltration, and can Outflank to reach the enemy deployment zone, to contest objectives, assault fragile/small shooting/scoring units (Grots, Cultists, IG, Big Guns, Devastators, etc.), and get Linebreaker.

Daniel Hesselberg, the Swede who qualified in the top 16 at Adepticon this year (and just missed qualifying last year as well) used a squad of (I think 8-12?) in this way.

Adepticon 2015: Team Tourney Best Imperial Team- Team Ironguts, Adepticon 2014: Team Tourney 6th/120, Best Imperial Team- Cold Steel Mercs 2, 40k Championship Qualifier ~25/226

Friend of mine uses them in concert with Imotekh's bloodswarm nanoscarabs. Targets the enemy's warlord and then drops 20 FO's smack dab right behind the warlord's unit. What typically ends up happening is that either all shooting is focused upon the Flayed Ones, or the warlord and his/her unit end up tarpitted for the rest of the game.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.
