I wanted to get the Sevrin Loth and Honour Guard set from forgeworld but i dont really want them to be using power axes and was wondering if anyone knew where i could either buy power swords/mauls or point me to some tutorials on how to make them.

That depends on how much effort and/or money you want to invest.
You could just go to a bitz shop or ebay and buy the needed amount of power swords. You could also use fantasy swords and attach them instead of the axe heads. Either as sword-staffs or shorten the shaft to get them to look like regular swords.

You could also make them out of plasticard.
Or you could try searching 3rd party vendors for swords.
Those for example are from kromlech;: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kromlech-Gladius-Vibro-Swords-/150777488611?pt=Games_US&hash=item231b09e4e3

There are tons of swords in Grey Knights boxes, so if you know anyone who plays GK you could probably get a couple off them. Some might be branded with =][= or other symbols, but a bit of scraping or liquid green stuff should blank them pretty easily.

And if you know anyone who plays Ravenwing you could probably bum a few swords off them, each of the Ravenwing accessory sprues has two, and each of the battleforces has three of the sprues. Good place for assault cannons too!

Shoot, it takes a bit of work, but I've shaved chainswords down into power swords before. Really, any sword, from any model, will do for a power sword.

You can make okay swords from 4 of the combat knives in the SM box too.

Plasticard is the cheapest way. A file is useful to "sharpen" the edges, but you can wlso just use a hobby knife and scrape the edges off.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

With a little bit of work and a steady hand you can make really mean looking plasticard power weapons.

The power sword of this guy for example is made from plasticard. His sword broke and i had to replace it. And it was fairly simple. No fancy stuff just a strip of plasticard with small cut out pieces and a filed edge. You just need something to attach the blade onto. In your case probably the old axe shafts.

And this guy of my chaos marines also has a power sword carved from plasticard with files and hobby knife.

You might try Hobbytown USA or Tap Plastics for the plasticard. You might want to find out the thickness you need to.

1mm thick plasticard gives good results for blades. Thick enough to be rigid, but not too thick to make the blade look more like a structural beam.
