I am an avid ork player...but with every new passing codex i find myself being less and less effective. It pretty much hit a brick wall with the new tau codex...

I have played 10+ games against tau players(since the new codex my gaming group went from 1 tau player...to 5) and I have yet to win once. I have pretty much every units in the ork codex and I have yet to find a combination that works.

I need some help to figure out a way that I can at least put up a fighting chance against tau, because so far nothing seems to work.

Orks: 3000
Chaos Daemons: 1750
Warriors of Chaos: 2000

Well I jumped around between a few to keep things short I will just post the basics(we usually play 1500pt)....

Battlewagon orks with mega-nobz, lootas and dakka jets

Horde Orks with dakka-jets, and kannons or lobbas

and on occasion Nob Biker squad

I have been playing orks for a while so jumping between lists isnt an issue with me...none of them seem to be working though.

It seems that no matter what I bring they have an answer for them. The one army that did come close was 3 battlewagons and 3 trukks all filled with basic boys and a dakka jet...nothing fancy.

I too have taken a beating from the Tua with my Orks...I no longer play them.

I see alot of threads about how the Tau are not OPed at all and everyone just needs to learn to play against them. That may work for some armys but the Orks just dont have much of anything they can do to compete. And all ive been seeing is Tau tableing anyone they play at the gameshop rounds ive watched.
Checking online batreps I see Tau winning a vast majority of them.
Now im rather new to playing 40k starting last summer,so im not sure if its a normal practice to make an army unstoppable when it gets an update. That recent ones before the Tau update didnt seem at all to make the DA or CSM over the top..not even close to what the Tau got.

Well anyway...maybe its just time to join the "Greater Good" in this game, heh.

While I'm just a fledgeling ork player, I'd recommend a fast ork army. I like your BW/speed-freak build. Perhaps try something like this at 1500:

Big Mek - KFF - 85
Warboss - Mega-armor, Cybork, Kombi-skorcha - 115

3x Meganobs - 2x Kombi-skorchas - 130
Battle Wagon - Deff Rolla, RPJ, 1x Big Shoota - 120

3x Meganobs - 2x Kombi-skorchas - 130
Battle Wagon - Deff Rolla, RPJ, 1x Big Shoota - 120

3x Meganobs - 2x Kombi-skorchas - 130
Battle Wagon - Deff Rolla, RPJ, 1x Big Shoota - 120

12x Boys - Choppas, PK Nob, Trukk - 142
12x Boys - Choppas, PK Nob, Trukk - 142
12x Boys - Shootas, 1x Big Shoota, Trukk - 112
12x Boys - Shootas, 1x Big Shoota, Trukk - 112
10x Gretchins - 1x Runtherd - 40

Maybe try a 2 wave approach. Half your troops in vehicles and half on foot in large mobs. Use the first wave to distract and force the Tau to concentrate on them while the big foot mobs go after the fire warriors. Against Tau if you can get even a few orks into combat you will win big time.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Close combat doesn't even work half to time ether
A) you get overwatched with 50 dice(which counts towards combat rez), and I don't even get my extra attacks because of defensive grenades
or
B) Suits are waaay to good, at strength 5 they kill me pretty easily, 3+ save with 5+ FnP and hit and run.(that is if i catch them, because 2d6 jump movement always seems to get them out of the way)

It just seems to me that tau has an answer to whatever orks seem to bring. Meganobz work great if my opponent doesnt bring suits...since they always run them with Missle Launchers and Plasma Guns...and the plasma eats mega-nobz for breakfast

If he's not a big fan of railguns your nob bikers and/or battlewagons could be a good way to make him soil his pants.

If he is a big fan of rail guns, then bring more bodies, in big squads, and run like hell.

Kommandos might be a good way to add pressure early.

I would say the most important thing is to make sure he doesn't have the luxury of easy target priority. If he only HAS to shoot one squad a turn, he'll be happy. Put him in a situation where he HAS to shoot four or five squads, and can't do lethal damage to any of them.

If he balances his weapon load-outs between anti-tank and anti-infantry, then you'll probably have the best luck saturating one or the other. This makes some of his guns less useful every turn, which is a good way to balance the odds in your favor.

23 - 3 - 3
6 - 0 - 4
7 - 2 - 1
6 - 1 - 1

Maybe take it back little and try the oldschool horde of burna boyz on trukks and BWs. BW with deffrolla can smush stuff and the flame templates spray through cover. the tau players I've seen are usually in it or behind an adl.
