The Cheerios cereal brand recently released a commercial to YouTube called " Just Checking", it showcased a multicultural family, of a young child whose mother was Caucasian and father African American. The Cheerios commercial was blatant on the message they tried to convey to the spectators. The young girl wanted to know if Cheerios were good for the heart like her father told her.
The mother replies reading off the Cheerios box that they are in fact healthy because of the “whole grain oats that can help remove some cholesterol.” The daughter runs off and pours Cheerios on her father's chest, over his heart, while he is asleep on the couch.
The 31 seconds commercial revealed a regular family setting. But because of the interracial aspect of the family, it stirred up several controversy over racist comments on YouTube.
According to the huffintonpost.com , the video recieved more than 1,600 likes and more than 500 likes as of Thrusday night. But the Youtube comment box for the Cheerios ad was closed because of the many negative comments. The Youtube comment section , according to Adweek, included references to “ Nazis, “troglodytes” and “racial genocide.”
A YouTube commentator described the ad to be an " abomination" , according to the Concreteloop.com. While the “Just Checking” Cheerios ad comments were disabled, another Youtube video was created about the racial controversy about the commercial.
One YouTube commentator disagrees with the negative racial portrayal of the ad “Biracial Commercial causes controversy,” “I see nothing wrong with this adorable commercial. I didn't realize that people still had an issue with race! I am white and I prefer to date outside of my own race. There's nothing wrong with that at all. And the whole "I'm becoming a minority!" argument is absolutely ridiculous. Grow up,” Amanda Grose said.
There are still some people present today that cannot handle the true acceptance of integrated relationships even in a commercial trying to brand their cereal.
My money was always on 4Chan, but YouTube is really starting to look like the better candidate.

Youtube comments really showcase the worst of the internet. I'm suprised that Youtube hasn't tried to do anything about it to be honest.

Usually, any kind of comments following an article or video descend fairly quickly into a horrorshow of ignorance and hate. The comments section you see after CNN articles are equally venomous, for example. The more mainstream the site is, the worse it gets, I think. Personally, it seems to me like it's just a situation of people saying offensive things because A) they think it's funny ("trolling") or B) they know there's no consequences for their actions. I just ignore the comments section of pretty much anything I read online now, or risk being depressed for the rest of the day.

I once, whilst bumbling about on youtube, found some video diaries from a girl suffering from progeria.
The comments on that video were appalling. It was hollowing to read. I cannot fathom the malicious people who write those things. I hope if there is a hell, that there is a special level just for them.

I didn't think there was any doubt that YouTube comments were the bottom-rung of the Internet ladder. I never thought 4chan was even close.
As a side note, General Mills has stated that they will not pull the commercial, despite the pressures from Jim Crow. That very quick, very sharp public response has prompted me to buy a box of Cheerios for not reason other than support.

I can't help but yawn at this. Really YouTube comments are worth making a stink about now?
I say this as someone who is of mixed race himself, and my family is heavily interracial, heck everyone from my generation in my family is of mixed race. I still can't find it in me to feel anything but a "Meh" at these sort of comments.

Yeah, accelerated decrepitude, they grow old and die in a fraction of the time it takes the rest of us.
But the comments, I don't know anyone who makes comments like that, or I don't think I do, I just don't understand where it comes from, the cruelty of it and the inability to empathize.
I'm guessing, hoping, that the majority of comments come from adolescent boys and that most of them will grow up to be less like the scum of the earth, but I'm better a few are adults with some sort of emotional deficiency.

Yeah... except I don't even OWN a gun, would fight to protect the 2nd amendment as it stands today, and find these comments appalling.

I'd just like to point out that according to the founding principles, that little girl in the commercial is only 4/5ths of a person. (I think that's how the math would work out)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was trying to say that a lot of the racists are also likely white, right wing, gun owners. They would protest against the changing of one of their constitutional rights, but happy to ignore one of the founding principles.
