Hello everyone,
Guess I will probably start yet another game. This time is infinity so my question is where to look? I would also like to know the different factions playstyle on a nutshell. I normally tend to prefer factions with high damage output but infinity is such a different game I am not sure of that makes sense.
As for models if there any kind of FOC? Are all the starter boxes a good place to start? I am basically trying to spend the less possible money on this

This time is infinity so my question is where to look?
At their website, http://www.infinitythegame.com/. The rules can be downloaded there for free, and you can look at the miniatures gallery.
If you've played 40k, you can look this up: http://wargamingtrader.com/infinity/intro2
Infinity prides itself in being a very balanced game. There are no power lists or power factions, and almost all unit choices are viable.
I would also like to know the different factions playstyle on a nutshell.
That's a hard thing to answer, because some play styles would be possible in almost every faction. Even the same faction will have different play styles, mostly because the unit choices is so vast (remember, almost everything is viable), although of course there are faction differentiation. As an example, I play Haqqislam with a heavy emphasis on camo troops (which is usually Ariadna's thing).
This is still a good read if you want a general idea of each faction: http://wargamingtrader.com/infinity/intro1
As for models if there any kind of FOC?
There isn't. There is AVA (availability), which indicates how many number of figures you can take on a certain miniature. For example, a Ghulam infantry has an AVA of Total, which means you can take as many as you the points will allow in a list, while a Hassassin Fiday has an AVA of 1, which means you can take only one.
However, you need to assign one legal Lieutenant on a list. Some units can be an Lt., some are not. Check the army list if you want to know if you can take a figure as your Lt.
Are all the starter boxes a good place to start?
Yes. usually a starter plus 2-4 blisters would make a pretty start up army. I started with a Haqqislam starter, an Al Hawwa Sniper, a Tuareg Sniper, a Boarding Shotgun Odalisque and a Boarding Shotgun Fiday. Remember that everything is useful so there would be no "dead" miniature that won't see much play (or no play at all).

That was quick. Thank you very much for the help. I will give it a good read and then come here again to ask for help in building lists.

Thanks for the help. I normally choose starter sets based on the looks of the miniatures but I must say this game is proving extremely hard to make decisions. Thanks for the links and the help. I am starting to feel I know a lot more about the game and probably need a few quick games to start having a better feel of what does what. At the moment it is too much in the air and pretty much impossible to decide just based on looks.
Also is Tohaa a new faction being introduced into the game? I quite like the look of their miniatures but not a fan of their faces.
For the starters packs at the moment I have the following:
Yu-Jin faction, like the general look of the faction but not the starters sets. If going for a starter set will definitely be the Japanese sectorial army
Haqislam, opposite problem don't really care that much about the faction as they just seem another faction of military humans, although the Hassasin Bahram set looks really good and I would kind of fancying painting odalisques.
Nomads - probably my favourite faction in terms of miniatures even though their poses are a bit over the top. The Bakunin jurisdictional army looks good although their weapons poses look off
Combined army - another cool faction and apart from the Morats, who look terrible in my opinion they actually look pretty cool and would be quite different from my normal armies. Starter set probably the Shavasti expeditionary force.
Aleph - another cool sci fi faction I like the looks of, but don't generally like their painting schemes. I know I don't need to follow them but seem quite monochromatic. Steel phalanx looks interesting enough to paint I guess.
Tohaa - Probably my favourite faction at the moment in line with Yu-Jin and Nomads, the models outside the starter set are probably my favourites. The helmeted versions look mighty cool

Tohaa are a new playable faction, but their fluff extends back to the 2nd ed rulebook in the Combine background.
The fluff in Paradiso neatly ties all of that together, with the human sphere, to tell you where they fit in.
There are no real hard-and-fast official paint schemes. I tend to do my PanO stuff in a blue tonal range, because that is pleasing to me, though. My YJ use a red-white-black scheme (I will not usually use orange or yellow in any thing) and my aleph use a tron scheme just because.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Tohaa is probably the most interesting faction for me at the moment. The big question is how fast will their range be filled? And for how long have they been out? Also it is possible to build a list without using the starter set?

Tohaa were only released last year. Late last year. Most months have had Tohaa releases since they were released, which should continue, at least for a while.
As for not using the starter, it's possible, they've got most the tools outside of it. You'd have Makaul and Chaksas for cheap LI, and durable Gao-Rael and Gao-Tarsos MI (with AD on the latter). Someone else will have to tell you how easy something like that would be to play, though.

You mean in general or to play with outside the starter box models only?

Outside of the starter box. But also in general, since I'm not an expert in them.

Definitely is feeling like that. But I "think" I have finally managed to ignore the rest and focus in two factions. Going to try and be different this time, I have been going for humans lately so decided to go for aliens this time around. That means either combined army or Tohaa. Trending more towards Tohaa, not that keen on the starter set but like pretty much of all the models with the exception of Kamael. On the other hand they seem to be slightly harder to learn with and there isn't much choice of models at the moment.
The other option is the Combined army which I haven't read so much about it. Love all the Shasvastii models even if the starter set is not my favourite one. They have a bigger model selection and if they are easier to learn with might be an option as well. I came to the realization there is always one or two models I like on the human faction but then they are not included in the starter sets so probably not a good idea to choose the faction based only on one model :p

Not really for me. I just had to have those Aragoto bikers.
Although after looking more into the game I'm already looking again what I would buy next!

Fair enough but If I would go that way I would have to have
Odalisques, brutally sexy, hate the rest of the faction
Nomads Custodiers, would really fancy to paint that, but moiras showing their butt seriously?
Shasvastii Corax Spec- Op and Shasvastii Tactical Domain Special Wing Noctifers, Morats on the other hand look ugly as well for me
Aleph, posthumans really sexy, problem another pretty boring human faction to paint
Goa-Rael and Chaksa auxiliares look like cool and would be a blast to paint.
Conclusion...have the same number of factions as by choosing based on the starter boxes :S
