Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

Hi folks; it's been a while since I posted anything here at dakka - that's why I thought I should show off with something
This is why I'm starting this new thread - to present a growing army. First off: C&C appreciated!

Spoiler:

I'm especially proud of this warrior, simply because of its base. The little tap with the water spilling out of the bucket, the fence, the "crack!"-effect below the warrior's left foot and and and. Since I'm usually sorta lazy with basing, I wanted to do a lot more than I did for most of my other miniatures. So: tada!

Spoiler:

Not a lot to say about this one, save for that he's jumping from a smahed hab-unit door. This was one of my first attempts on a scenic base. Hope you like the little bug

Spoiler:

To put it bluntly: I'm not too happy with this one, as its base does not tell a story like I want the other ones to do: the only thing one could see in this base is that there was a Space Marines who's probably not hale and hearty any more... And yet, I'm a wee bit proud of the helmet. A tiny wee bit. xD

I'd say you have reason to be proud of those bases, they really make the 'nids pop. Posing is also well done, love the jumping warriors. The color combination works well too, I especially like that bright blue tongue. Makes them look suitably alien.

Thanks a lot, HirogenHunter
That's what I hoped for, although my colour scheme afterwards reminded me too much of the video game Crysis... Doesn't matter, though, since I enjoyed the game a lot

------------

Here's another shot of my army, barring only the warriors.

Following up next is a squad of Genestealers. May take a month or two, though

Man those are some of my favorite nids I have seen. The color scheme is fantastic. Those bases really compliment the models.

First off, I've got to mention that I absolutely love the shade of blue on the bone-swords - it's pretty damn epic! The models as a whole are excellent - especially the subtly of the bluey-purpley flesh and the stark contrast of the swords - brilliant. I'm not a fan of Tyranids in general (though they do look badass ), but these are simply stunning, far better than my attempts at least. Keep up the good work

That is a brilliant scheme. Those Warriors look gorgeous.

Love the posing and the work on the bases too. Im also going to carve my Primes bonesword to look more sabre-like as you have done with these warriors.

@El-Torrminator: Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I wanted to show: a tyranid warrior shares many aspects of its statline with the basic Space Marine, whose strength and agility is considered to be on a superhuman level. That's why a tyranid warrior has to look like a fast creature

@UnCool Villain: Thank you! The bases were actually one of the toughest issues... I considered snow bases at first, but then I thought it would be a better idea to use a colour not yet used on the miniatures...

@Warpig1815: Thanks
Man, if I were a girl, you'd make me blush this instant xD
The boneswords are my almost-favourite part, if I may say that without praising myself too much: at first, I planned to use those swords just the way they came out of the blister - more hatchet than sword. Then I was lucky enough to get my hands on a dirt cheap new plastic hive tyrant, who wields four bonesabres - and since I intend to include this little chap in my fluff, why shouldn't his subjects mimic their "king"? It was, however, kind of tough to decide how to paint the swords... using the same technique for organic weaponry I used for metal swords just didn't feel right, just as these things wouldn't have looked right when painted just like the claws... Luckily, a friend of mine complained about all the people painting their tyranids via feathering and how happy he was I didn't utilize that technique... Making it clear for me that I absolutely HAD to use it, not only to p*** my friend of, but also as hommage to all the classic painting

@HerbaciousT: Thanks a lot, as I said before: I felt it was necessary as their swords look like hatchets rather than the fine weapons they should be. I'd love to see a picture of the finished Prime

@Flood: "oozes cool". Now that's cool
Thank you!

@Pedro Kantor: Thanks
Did my best. Well, on most of them, that is

@zaak: the funny thing is that I was asked for a tutorial only a few hours ago - sadly, as I'm not at home atm, I can't paint anything at all. But I'll do a step-by-step in the very moment I return home.
If you don't mind waiting two weeks, I'll explain anything as detailed as I can.
Oh, and thank you! ^^

@killykavekommando:
Thanks! Well, I stole it from a 12-year-old who was featured on GW's "what's new today" about a year ago. And added my own style to it.

First, they look fantastic, unusual color scheme that I think works together, combined with obvious great skill at painting.

But why post the images as "spoiler alerts"? Since the point of your post is to show them off what exactly is being spoiled?

And again, fantastic!

@chiefbigredman: Thanks a lot, but I guess you're exaggerating a little, aren't you?
I saw some of the models in your gallery, and at the very least, they're cleanly painted. Which is more than many others are able to. Oo
Also, your stealth suits do look awesome

@Reecius: thanks, man! Hey, are you the Reecius from Frontline?

@Demigod: Thank you! I hope it's not too different (yet "alien" enough ).

@Solis Luna Astrum: Thanks
Great skill? Nah, don't think so. It's all about practicing and ambitions.
I usually post bigger pictures as spoilers because I personally don't like being flooded with too many images at once.
So it's not a spoiler in the classic sense, but rather some sort of blinds ^^

@Crypto: Thanks a lot, great to hear that

I wanted it to look similar, yet different from power weapons - which I apperently managed to pull off as you guys seem to love the blue

@HiveFleetCollossus: Thank you! But remember, it's stolen from a twelve-year-old :(

@iGuy91: Oh yeah!
I'll just take the bit of fluff I've posted in another forum and paste it - to let you see how absolutely right you are

Hive Fleet Hastur (c.f. The Whisperer in Darkness for the justification) is a splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Behemoth, first encountered during the Damocles Gulf campaign. The splinter fleet was dubbed "Hastur" in reference to an ancient deity of the same name that was rumored to be an amorphous, yet polypous-like, ravenous mass with many tendrils and tentacles. During the fights with the Black Templars chapter, many cults worshipping the tyranids as the "King in Yellow" were discovered (and apparently exterminated). By the price of almost an entire crusade and countless Guard regiments, the aliens were driven back and forgotten for several decades, until fighting began again in Tau territory.
It was there that the splinter fleet first incorporated cobalt into their circulatory systems; with it being dangerous to humans getting in contact with it and the oxygen-carrying fluid relatively easy to produce.

A story about the "King in Yellow" will follow soon

@mould2k: easy solution, brother! Use an already existing paint scheme! There are more than enough tutorials around - I'll post one soon, too. Maybe you'd like to join Hive Fleet Hastur in order to turn it into a true hive fleet rather than the puny splinter fleet it is atm
