I have some plastic 28mm scale palm trees that I want to base on some plasticard to make a grove of palm trees. The problem is the bases are tapered and quite slender so gluing them directly to the plasticard probably won't work. I need to put a blob of putty and push them into that. Do you think regular, run-of-the-mill plasticene would do the trick or do I need something more specialist? Once the trees are based, I will apply sand and paint/flock the plasticard.

Milliput. You want a putty that dries reasonably hard, and is cheap.

There's a company that does 3 part mdf laser cut kits for tree stands - base, layer with holes, and individual tree bases to go in the holes... That sort of setup is probably what you want.

Hobbycraft near me has some Milliput in stock so I will make a detour there ASAP
