Subject: Movement trays and extra size?

Just a quick question, but both the moulded and multi-part movement trays from GW are a fraction bigger than then models inside it (base size)
The result is, models like clanrats actually rank up without any issues as you have about 3mm - 5mm more space in the tray.
However, is there any drawback to this, or any issues with rules?
Granted its only a few mm extra, but can this cause any problems in game?
I dont want to cause issues, but i also dont want to move 250 models each turn on their own.
Thanks in advance

You may find yourself in the front arc of something you wouldn't be otherwise, or something like that, but it's such a small margin that this'll be a very rare occurrence.
As for rules issues, I don't think there is any, since you always measure from base to base, the trays don't come into it. And, whilst I think, perhaps, there could (at least in the eyes of TFG-like people), you have to remember that movement trays are a product made and sold by GW, not something you've made yourself in the potential aim to claim an unfair advantage.

I always measure as if the tray isn't there. So front arc is still from the corner of the corner model's base and for ranges its still to the model.
When in combat the tray does mean the models can't actually touch each other but that's not big enough of a deal to worry about.
A few millimeters of leeway is perfectly fine. You can always adjust model position in the tray to fix it.

The only downside is that you don't move quite as far when charging, which has left me slightly short on overruns (because you measure from base not tray). Always use them though because they make moving blocks so much quicker.

Yep. I'd be far more annoyed if you were taking ages to make your move than if you were trying to gleam an extra few millimetres of movement.

Always measure from base to base. Ignore the movement tray for all purposes.

Thanks all
Just didnt want it to cause any issues.
And since my units are usually around 50 models, i refuse to move them one by one
Did miss a trick though and forgot to use cav bases to make it even easier :(

Ouch, i feel your paint
Going from 1.5k - 3k points will be fun for me.
Im tempted to add in more machines and elite units to fill points, rather than more rats.

If your guys are on 20mm bases you can even use 40mm square bases as unit fillers. 40mm = 4 dudes.
Its a good way of stretching your budget. 40mm base with 2 guys on it, preferably on some nice little terrain feature. You just doubled the number of guys you got.

I cut up spare pieces of the tray and glue 5 guys or 10 guys to it. It makes it really easy to stay ranked up and pull losses (and replace them for vampires). Just make sure to leave yourself enough lose models to "make change".
