Hey everyone

I just started an Eldar army and decided that I'd for once spend some time on the models and make them good looking. I'm wondering if I could get some advice on what to add/improve on my scheme. Right now, I've been running a really bright blue, with green gems and grey helmets. The idea to make them very bright and shiny (I really liked what Reece Robbins did with his eldar scheme for example).

Anyway, advice, techniques etc is appreciated

(these are my prototype dudes, I can re-paint etc as needed)

Looks really good at the moment, but it think that blue would really benefit from an edge highlight.

Fine looking eldar dude, I do think the grey needs something, it seems a little dull compared to the blue. Maybe some eldar markings on the side of his helmet.

Lighter blue there or?

Also, having real trouble getting a smooth visor and doing the eyes. Any advice?

I found this useful for edge highlighting: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/basics-line-highlighting-made-simple.html?m=1

My only advise for the smooth look is water your paints down, you want a milk like consistency, as to the eyes its just practice practice practice dude.

Should I be using the same blue that I have under the wash, or should I go for something even lighter? (like white?)

Also, any suggestions on the helmet?

It depends on how much time you want to spent on each mini. Because you can do both. Make a more general edge highlight with the base blue and then another go with a lighter blue on areas that are hit with more light.

And with the helmet maybe try to add a light spot/reflection with a few layers of watered down white. But i think it would be best to get a reference for that. (Or wait for someone with more painting experience than me. )

How does spot/reflection work?

Also I'm completely ok with spending a lot of time on these

Well i can't say how to do it paintwise. But depending on the material your helmet should have (dull, reflective, ...) add areas where the light reflects from the helmet and paint those areas with a lighter color.

Just imagine a light source above your models and start from there. You could also use an actuall lamp hold the model under it an see where the light touches the model the most and make those lighter and with a stronger edge highlight.

Hmm alright, will give it a try.

Any other suggestions?
