Planning on making a pre-order this week (and fingers crossed for a pre-xmas release this year!)
So, who else is planning to get this machine? Thoughts on the console, games forthcoming, other aspects of the machine etc?

Chance's are high that I will be buying one. I don't care for the restrictions Microsoft are using on their new system. I also don't like buying license's instead of games. With PC I don't have much choice, but thankfully I still do in the console market. I seriously doubt Microsoft will change course at this late date dispite their customer's complaints.
I'm actually looking forward to Destiny. Really love Halo and I'm really excited to see where Bungie will take their new IP. Also looking forward to the final fantasy series again as well as the witcher 3.
Interesting to see that Gran Turismo 5 is going to be on the PS3.. thought it would have been a sure-fire for the PS4, although with the developer's rate of production perhaps that's for the best!
Destiny looks pretty cool as well - actually, it's nice to see some brand new games, rather than just franchise continuations, come with the new machine.

I'm probably going to wait a year or so before getting one (Gives enough time for a bit of a price drop and just before they phased out current gen completely)
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing
If I had to chose between Xbone and PS4, itd be PS4 hands down. It seems Sony learned its lessons from the PS3 launch. Man did they take it in the rear But at least they learned
Already pre-orederd mine. Have not been into gaming since I sold my 360 about 2 years ago but am so excited for this. Hoping Destiny is a first release game (:
Bungie already said that is won't. They do not make PC games, it's not in their current business model.
"We haven't said yes, and we haven't said no. The more platforms we take on, the more work it ultimately becomes, and what we don't want is to compromise the core experience on any platforms. We have a lot of people who play on PCs. We have a lot of appetite to build that experience. We haven't announced it yet, but we're looking forward to talking more about that kind of stuff in the future."
Has anyone in the UK pre-ordered a machine yet, and if so from where?
Was going to do it from Game (and would rather support a dedicated games store rather than the likes of Tesco) but didn't know if there were any other options out there.
Superior hardware, lower price...if I would get a new console, I'd buy a PS4, it's a no-brainer. But alas, I don't see any point in getting a console when I got a PC that's superior.

I don't think the PS4 can really be classified as nextgen, what exactly is it doing other than just a PS3 hardware upgrade?
Atleast the Xbox One is leaping for the stars, and now new and improved.
Even look at Amazon, PS4 was on top for pre-ordered until the news broke that Microsoft dropped the stupid 24 hour and DRM requirements.

As I said in the Xbox thread.. for me the price and power differential (if any) isn't that big an issue.
MS's code of behaviour is - it's their turn to play as the pantomime villain (a role played in the past by Nintendo, Sega, Sony in turn)
The PS4 is most certainly next gen as thats what next gen is, better gaming, not giving your friends the ability to shout TV while your trying to play a game. PS4 beats the xbox 180 hands down.

The Division, destiny and killzone on my initial list of games I want to play haha. I have to admit though with Microsoft revesing their policies I was tempted to withdraw my PS4 pre-order, but at the end of the day it came down to price. Cant wait for this

The ps4 GPU has 50% more cores but they are identical in specs other than that (not to say that this doesn't make a difference)
They both have 8 core 1.6 ghz processors (disapointing for me, 1.6 ghz is garbage)
The ddr3 of the Xbox is actually an advantage in gaming because ddr3 benefits from low latency situations such as those found in games...the ps4 packs ddr5 which looks better on paper, but may not apply itself as well to gaming.
Overall I would say that for the gamers, there won't be much difference in the hardware, at least not enough to really warrant a purchase one way or another. At this point it really comes down to the games, and that extra $100 for kinect. The games I DEFINITELY give to Xbox...the kinect? Ehh, I'd take it or leave it.

?? It has eight of them on a platform optimized for gaming.
Basically, it's a stripped down, lean-mean gaming PC without the PC bloatware/OS tax.
That's a gak ton of firepower for a massed produced device.

There's actually a huge difference:
DDR3 is basically 64-bit memory bandwidth... whereas DDR5 can scale to either 256/384-bit bandwidth. While you may not see a whole lot of differences between X-box and PS4 gaming, what this does is gives PS4 potential longer longevity than the Xbox.
Also GDDR5 allows a write and read to/from memoryevery clock cycle, whereas DDR3 is limited to a read or a write, which reduces bandwidth.

I think what we'll see is that as developers familiarize themselves over the PS4, they'll be able to do things better than the xbox. However, you'll only see that on PS4 exclusive games. Usually, it's to the publisher's best interest to develope games that can be ran for both xbox and ps4.
No problem... I didn't mean to pick on that poster (please don't take it as so BrotherVord)
Like I said, from a hardware "horsepower" standpoint, the PS4 shines. But you're not going to see a whole lot of differences between the two systems, unless it's a PS4 exclusive.

It's only $100 difference... plus, their hardware is more appropriated priced. (don't forget, they're including the Kinect as well).
The low price point for PS4 is likely just the console plus one controller. (which is fine with me).
It's a 100$ difference, it has inferior hardware and forces you to buy a gimmick. I just don't get why M$ did this...they out-competed themselves price-wise with the Xbox 180°.
