I've been looking through a bunch of DE threads and the codex to try to find how I would best enjoy playing them.

Right now, something that looks fun is

Baron
15 Hellions
x6
Ravager
x3

That leaves some points for upgrades or additional bodies, but 91 jump infantry models and 3 skimmers with cover or invuls seems pretty exciting. I know that this is about as glass cannon of a build as you can get but is it even a little bit viable?

What suggestions would you have for a new DE player?

15 Hellions x6?

you mean 90 Hellions?

Hellions are pretty bad, taking 90 of them seems like a terrible idea. Lose those 3 ravagers and you have nothing left to kill armor.

How is this better than 90 assault marines for BA?

From playing tyranids, I'm used to depending on only a couple units to slay armor. If they fall, I try to outmaneuver the enemy to take more objectives.

As for the comparison to assault marines, I would say their guns are slightly more useful and they have more attacks.

I am willing to hear other tactics just as well. What would you rather suggest? The other list that really interested me was Rakarth with wracks and grotesques, all mounted on raiders.

Now I don't play nids, so I have a very limited knowledge of them... But aren't they fearless? And that "couple units to slay armour", aren't they zoan or MC? Hellions aren't fearless, 4 unsaved wounds and you have to roll a morale test on ld8, fail that and you lose an entire unit. Now how hard do you think it's gonna be to deal 4 unsaved wounds on an unit of T3 with whatever cover save they can get? Similar deal for ravagers, AV11 and a weak save really aren't all that, remember it's an open-topped, so one unlucky penetration shot and it could be gone. What I'm saying is, don't apply nids tactics to DE, different armies, different style.

Your Urien idea sounds much better to me, do expand on that.
