Threads like this only really result in necrons being #1 followed by everything else with BT and SoB at the bottom.

Are Necrons really that good? I've never played them. There was one guy who did, but he moved on to DE before the new codex hit (actually come to think of it he's played about 5 different armies).

Blood angels last?

Really?

GK is wayyyy too high up IMO, they are a pale shadow of what they once were.

An objective way to rank them based on strength would be to look at their performance in tournaments, I guess. Though you'd need to compensate for some armies being played more and some being played less, of course.

Order of the Righteous Armour - 542 points so far.

And another question is possibly diversity? Would another factor of bests lists be whether they can have multiple army choices or are pretty much stuck to a single list.

I'd have to go with:

1. Chaos Space Marines
2. Necrons(though only with the one croissant list, the codex sucks as far as the game is concerned)
3. Tau
4. Grey Knights
5. Space Wolves
6. Eldar
7. Dark Eldar
8. Blood Angels
9. Dark Angels
10. Vanilla Marines
11. Black Templars
12. Orks
13. Tyranids
14. Imperial Guard
16. Sisters of Battle
17. Chaos Daemons(the new codex was cool, but they didn't fix the glaring flaws, imo)

I believe that's all but Iyanden, and I haven't played against that one yet.

Wooa, woooa, I play crons and they are no way 1st unless you are playing with the bakery of death list and that shouldn't count!

That is a possibility I only know one, and I've only played against him and another at a tournament. I've yet to see a win with that or the old codex, I'm afraid. And I was quite saddened by it, because he's a friend of mine, and he's cool and all, but I've never seen him win, lol

I personally play Orks, but ours isn't near what it once was in 5th, unfortunately.

I'd place older codices toward the bottom that have not been updated to reflex taking maximum advantage of the new 6th edition rule set. But of course, this is all subjective anyway aside from several codices that have remained strong or got way better due to 6th ed or a 'dex update in 6th.

Yeah, like I said, I was only counting the Croissant list. Overrall, I'm not a fan of the codex because it's really the only really badass list, imo, but that one list is just about as good as you can be at a Tourney, from what I've seen.

Crons have repeatedly shown via tourniment results that they are top dog. Tau are showing up everywhere however as a tough army to beat for any melee and most cover-based lists. IG, however, trumps them with Executioner russes, Vendettas, and Manticores able to take down the tough threats from most lists (and the best ally selection). Eldar are still tough to gauge, but i think they have enough combinations to be up there with serpent spam. Beyond that you start into GK who have suffered from many armies running with ever more cost effective AP2-3 templates. After that its largely personal opinion as tourney ranking are all over the place with sub-top-5 slots.

You must have REALLY bad IG players in your Area , IG have the Absolute Best Point-firepower Ratio in the Game right now - a Vendetta List will beat a Necon Air list because even 1's thats still a glance against necron armor - not to mention that IG Armor ( tanks ect. ) are Arguably the BEST in the Game ,

Again, that could be the case, I know two IG players, one likes to spam Valkyries and the other Leman Russes. I didn't find either tough to beat, though admittedly neither have used their IG armies since 5th.

Unfortunately the tourneys down here are generally filled with Space Marines.

to give you a little bit of prospective on the Point-firepower ratio - all of these cost are "about " sense i have nither codex on hand

for the Same cost of a Ten man Marine squad with bolters i can get a Vet Squad with 3 plasma Guns and a Chimera --- and you can't base your entire idea on two players it is not accurate -

The OP has to be trolling Blood Angels? Weaker than Black Templars? I stopped using my Bangles army because, after so many years playing Sisters, fielding them with their 5th Edition Codex felt like cheating! Even if they aren't top of the heap any more (and I'd still peg them in the top three or four), they certainly aren't at the bottom

To the OP, Ranked how? You gave us no guidelines.

Power? Coolest Fluff? Least likely to be brought home to meet the parents? Most likely to get drunk after combat?

I can only assume you meant Ranked in Alphabetical order, so here is my ranking. In order. As it should be.

1) Black Templar
2) Blood Angels
3) Chaos Daemons
4) Chaos Space Marines
5) Dark Angels
6) Dark Eldar
7) Eldar
8) Grey Knights
9) Imperial Guard
10) Nectons
11) Orks
12) Sisters of Battle
13) Space Marines
14) Space Wolves
15) Tau
16) Tyrranids

IG wont do so good without fearless granting IC's on them. Also CSM is pretty not-so-good tbh. atleast not better than TAU.

Why not? IG are a great allied army, but alone aren't that impressive. A good Tyranid army will usually beat a good IG army. They have great utility a an allied detachment but as a Primary are fragile and have quite a few weaknesses that can only be dealt with with allies.
