I typically struggle to deal with necron vehicles, my typical list consists of meltavets + melta CCS and a few Russes, plus some deep-striking melta stormtroopers. Melta guns are by and large useless at >6", and lascannons are hard to fit in. Yes I could take HWT if i really wanted at most a single turn of shooting before they were swept off the board. I could add lascannons to my veterans but that would sacrifice their manouvrability, which would make them redundant.

Right but assuming i'm not going to drop £60 on one and I don't have the ability to proxy one.

Vendettas, lascannon Sabre guns, Rapiers, Manticores, Medusas with bastion breacher shells. Pick one or more as appropriate.

And not spending money probably isn't an option. If your list can't handle AV 13 you probably aren't going to fix it just by changing an upgrade or two, so you'll have to buy something. And it might as well be a Vendetta or three.

Not sure about in the UK, but you can find amazing deals on Feebay!
I just picked up 4 drop pods and a LRC for $135(USD), shipped.

Melta Vets in a Chimera or Vendetta/Valkyrie are also good.

I SUPPOSE Devil Dogs (or whaterver the melta-hellhound is called) is good, too, with the 6th Ed blast rules.

Remember if you are using atillery that they always hit on side armor, thus negating the av13 in most cases. Predators aren't so tough when your dropping basilisk shells on its av 11 side armor.

Lots of places in the codex to get lascannons.

And meltas.

Put those Heavy weapons in Infantry squads, helps to live on for longer.

You can also go full tank right back at ,em and take some Leman russes, Str 8 ordinance (so 2 dice, take highest) on the side armour is decent. Or invest a bit and go with a Vanquisher with a front lascannon...Hmm..yet again Necrons got that stupid gauss rule, so you do loose value on that front armour.

We're talking about Necron AV 13 spam, and Necron vehicles have the same armor on front and side.

This is a new one. i've never heard of a guard player crying about his lack of anti tank. Especially since almost every single option in the codex has an option to take anti tank weapons.

Here's my suggestion: take those russes you mentioned and take the hull mounted lascannons. Oh, and then keep the russes in as much cover as possible and fire as effectively as possible. Just cause you have ordinance doesn't mean thats what needs firing every turn.

Or barring that, maybe a flier for your vets? but the russ option would be cheapest on the wallet i'd say

There's a day for everything. Necrons bring a trio of jinking AV13 vehicles for 270 points. Their dedicated transports bring all that and 4 HP for just 115.

That kind of high-AV efficiency will strain even the most overwhelming anti-tank firepower.

I can see where meltas have a tough time against necron vehicles, especially since the moment you drop a storm trooper or any short range vehicle near them those gauss arrays are going to tear them to shreds. Your only options would be to get either more Lascannon teams (or throw them in with your melta vets), Medusa with bastion shells, Manticores, or vanquishers (paskquisher is a personal fav of mine, being a str 9 long range melta with a str 10 lascannon).

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

Leman Russ Demolishers, Manticores, Lascannons, ...

Av13 may be a bit of a challenge as a fairly heavy value, but thankfully you play Imperial Guard, and we have a plethora of long-range anti-armour weapon.

The issue with so much melta is you have to get your fragile, fragile infantrymen into melta range (ie, extreme-close-begging-to-be-assaulted range), so even taking out light armour for you has the same issues as targeting their heavy-hitters. But get something that can soften them up from range as you advance and you have a fairly solid shock troop.

go for lascannon HWT's, or a leman Russ vanquisher. maybe a little overkill, but it guarantees a good kill from a long, long range.

You must have a very generous standard for "guaranteed" if a LR Vanquisher that misses entirely 50% of the time qualifies.

granted if it hits, but hey we are IG! we have so many tanks they are probably built from saucepans - who said you are only going to have one vanquisher?

I also have a little reputation for being too lucky for my own good.

on the forum. Obviously

Things Necron AV13 hate :

Haywire (Doesn't exist in IG, but if you have an army who does have it you can try to ally them)

Lascannons (You get a lot of this in IG)

Melta (ditto)

S7 (again, ditto. Plasma and autocannons, everywhere.)

Ordnance (Not very optimal, but that ordnance trait comes in handy.)

Doesn't help against necrons. Necrons don't care what armor you have. They are like honey badgers when it comes to vehicles.

Exactly, we have Gauss and Haywire-guns for that.

On another note: Please remember that almost every Necron vehicle is Open-Topped.

Yep, and if the penetration doesn't kill it, an autocannon or a multilaser will.

3x vanquishers with lascannons and no sponsons with a wolf rune priest for divination!

Also beast hunter shells from forgeworld. And maybe that techpriest in a Trojan support vehicle giving you preferred enemy or something... oh wait, we're talking tanks lol well then skip the Trojan I guess or skip the rune priest but either would work well!

Also, with Necron vehicles, try to get a rear shot. Quantum Shielding only affects front and side, not rear. 1 pen and you are left with AV 11 vehicles that are open-topped

What page in the rulebook says artillery (ordinance) hits side armor?

Also: Besides Vendettas is there any other ant-air unit that is worth taking?
