Subject: Shasvastii list building questions

I'm a bit confused on a few things and i'm hoping for some help. I'm new to Infinity and haven't played a game yet, I intend on going to a local store on t he 12th to learn more and stuff though. Just got my Shasvastii starter box and i'm looking to expand it this month as a painting project while going to school, i'm just unsure what to do.
First of all Caliban guys, I want to use them as a squad but they are 1 point more expensive after the embryo phase, how does this work ? or what does it mean?
Is SWC based on points agreed to play or points spent in the list? what I mean is, is it like "lets play a 300 point game , I spent 300 points exactly so I get SWC but you spent 298 so you only get 5"? or is it "Lets play a 300 point game, we agreed on 300 points so we each get 6SWC" ?
I came up with these 2. My only, I guess goals for the list are to be competitive enough that if played well will do well and to somehow use at least 1 Q drone, dam things are to neat looking, and to hopefully make use of what came in the starter box aside from the seed troops which seem rather um dull compared to other link able troops for similar prices.

This seems fun with the sheskiin and calibans but im worried that it might be too invested them doing well. also kinda not sure if the boarding shotgun option for caliban is worth it when the combi guys are a bit cheaper and you get a nanopulser with them to boot which sounds like a fun toy. I could upgrade t he shouded to a minelayer for that last free point even!
or maybe like this

this one feels better thinking about it i'm not entirely sure why though. 3 man Caliban link with the Mdrone free to do sensor stuff without having to drag the rest of a link with it. Minelayer and Mlaignos ahead to help slow or redirect the enemy and maybe be able to support the Speculo. Gwailo LT mostly because he doesn't cost SWC hes cheap and fair bit more durable than others could maybe sit on an objective pretty well. the Q drones could help push and provide nice ARO with total reaction until they find a nice spot on an objective, plus 12 mines sounds fun
Just looking for some imput on what I could do to build on my starter box and do well with.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I think the "developed shape" profile is for deploying them like other models (without using an embryo). For the SWC, it's always at the points level. So if you bring 299 points to a 300 point game you still get 6 SWC. I have no idea about what Shasvastii lists do/don't work, so I'll leave that for others.

It's just another point cap. So you agree to play 300pts, which as standard has 6 SWC, just like you'd agree to play a 1500pt game of 40k. You have that limit, but if you don't reach either of them, no problem.
I actually find it hard sometimes to reach the SWC limit.

Yeah, thanks, that makes sense. It seemed obvious but you never know . I think building list and what not will make more sense after I get a game or two in. I really should stop playing with the army building its....addicting...like really addicting...

Not sure about the Calibans. But I didn´t test them. Think they are good for some scenarios, but I miss Shasvastii specialities like Camo and other bad stuff. They are a bit expensive for normal games IMO even the Auto Med Kit is a nice feature. If you play this lists please give a feedback how it worked. I´m trying Shasvasti lists, too but often I can´nt find a way using them in a good way. Think they are just added because Shasvastii needed engeneers. I like the model, hope to get one in my normal Shas lists...

What unit do you normally link ? I'll be picking up a load of minis this month so i'll surely let you know how it when i try it out.
The seed soldiers are just sooo mediocre and gwailos are closerto 30p a model and you lose the cool guns. I sapose you could save some points by running seed soldiers, maybe enough to pick up a 3rd minelayer or a shrouded.

I didn´t use any links for the Shas so far. I think often a lot of people rely on links in their lists and when you brake them with mines, flamers or Missile launchers their list get a bit useless. Shas are like a nightmare, they come from nowhere not searching a direct firefight but using different tactics. I will try a Gwailos link they got nicer weapons (Missile launcher and Spitfire) a Arm 4 is a nice thing for Shas. I use an Aswang for lieutenant. He has Camo, his vampiric skills and an adhesive launcher...and doesn´t cost SWC, too.

That's an interesting point, I may pick up the gwailos and try them out and proxy seed soldiers as calibans since they don't appear to have a model yet.

I personaly love the Gwailos look. So I bought them now waiting for the Missile Launcher guy. but the Caliban is sweet too. He is very big for a Shasvastii, not so slender and thin like the Seeds.

Seed Soldiers being mediocre is pretty much why they are the 'generic' troops of the Shasvastii forces, like the Alguaciles or Moderators for the Nomads.

Yeah I know, I mean they are 9 points cheaper than Calibans, could get a few more models in. They do HAVE to start as an embryo though yeah ? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also OMG you have almost 25k post, nice job!

Yes they have to. You can see this as disadvantage of course. But If you want you also could start with a lot of Camo markers. For some missions this sucks but it can become handy sometimes...
