Subject: Siege Ogryn v2

Hi all,
I've been contemplating converting a couple of ogryns to fit a Death Korps army and would like some rules to match.
Hulking brutes slogging it across nomans land. Gasmasks, great coats and extra slabs of armor to soak up even more bullets.
Smashing through barricades through sheer bulk and momentum, ripper guns blazing and sending space marines flying with demolition hammers designed to smash open reinforced bulkheads.
Here's my thoughts so far:
- Same stats as regular ogryns
- Carapace Armor ( 4+ save )
- Bulky
- Stubborn
- Hammer of wrath replaces furious charge:
Heavy slabs of armor tax their strength somewhat but makes up for it turning them into living battering rams upon the charge.
- Siege Ogryn may not take a dedicated transport. Fear of enclosed spaces. Besides, these filthy abhumans are expendable. Drawing Inordinate amounts of enemy fire is one of their best uses.
Up to two Ogryn may replace their ripper gun with demolition hammer for xx points
- Demolition hammer:
Powered sledgehammer for busting through plasteel and rockcrete.
Two handed, unwieldy, SMASH
This will be mainly for home games with two friends in particular, they don't have to be balanced per se, if you would put a points cost on these, how much would it be ? ( prefer they be overcosted a little then under )
Suggestions welcome/needed.

Have you looked at the renegade ogryn models from forge world?
Also you could try thunderhammers on the ogryn. strx2, that gets it to 10, and AP 2 same as smash without 1/2 attacks.
adds unwieldy, spec weapon and concussive to it too.
Points wise just use normal ogryn points then add cost for thunder hammer, i think they are around 20-30 points without checking my SW codex
But as a fellow Krieg player running Ogryn in a Krieg list is not very fluffy , good idea though.

I actually really like Savaged's unit. Furious Charge to HoW might be a slight cost increase. Ripper gun to Demo Hammer is also fine, Lose attacks but add strength, seems okay.

Thanks for the reply guys,
Yes I realise Ogryn are not according to Krieg fluff. I wouldn't be running them as the true Death korps however, just a made up copycat regiment
I was thinking of giving them acces to thunder hammers at first. But prefer the idea of slightly less powerful equipment, can't be doling out
such expensive weapons to lowly Ogryn after all ! And I think Ogryn have SMASH written all over them anyway.
So how much would you think a weapon like the demo hammer might be costed points wise ? I was thinking comparable or probably the same as thunder hammers since they already have such a high base strength even though they are supposedly inferior to TH's.
As for carapace armor perhaps make it an upgrade much like the grenadiers doctrine albeit more expensive since it's such a huge force multiplier for such high toughness close combat beasts.
Let me know what you think !

Maybe carapace armour at +10 ppm, taken from if you want it for a lord commisar.
Then Demo hammer, maybe 15 ppm. Same points as power fist, it gets AP 2 the same if it has smash but has the penalty of 1/2 attacks for double strength so thats a fair trade off for those points.
Maybe keep furios charge on them.
If you want hammer of wrath maybe add another upgrade or change carapace armour to spiked carapace armour, model gains hammer of wrath.
Have you had the idea of a siege shield upgrade for them. maybe a 5+ invul for 10-20 ppm

I like the idea of a heavily armoured ogryn stomping across no mans land soaking up bullets.
What about:
60 Pts
Standard ogryn statline
Wargear:
Frag Grenades
Ripper gun
Impromptu Metal Suit (2+ Save, no invulnerable save)
Special Rules:
Bulky
Stubborn
Smash
It's Dark In 'ere (no tranports)
Slow and Purposeful
I figure they could carry some seriously thick armour giving them the 2+ but slows them down so they cannot furious charge or hammer of wrath, but because of the addition mass when they get up to speed, they could smash pretty hard into a slow moving squad/tank. Slow and purposeful doesn't really give them any major benefit or loss, but fits fluff wise.

2+ armour might be a bit much, they might as well be in TDA
At most you could get away with 3+ with some grumbling about it, 4+ would get no complaint.

They have to have atleast a 3+ otherwise they don't work, both fluff wise and tactically. storm shield would work i suppose, though it should be modelled to be atleast twice the size of a terminator storm shield.

Why?
Ogryns get wounded on a 5 or 6 from most small arms fire, couple this with their multiple wounds and they are pretty tough to take down.
