That is a very nice pile of plastic.....sorry that should have read massive pile of glorious plastic.

As I've come to expect the walkway is fabulous.

Looking forward to seeing it and the other building painted....and hopefully a full battle report with photographs when it is all done.

Thanks PDH.

Desperate for the skulls that this project deserved, I found the following solution.

Skalk was talking about symmetry in his thread, and that got me thinking. Symmetry in construction is human nature and is very pleasing to the eye.

And now onto the walkway proper....

what a feel this implies....ooting all those movie memories from alien and bladerunner...too cool for just one table^^ so send it over to me^^

tho on a side note...as much as i am loving all those sexy rivets that are here in abundance i am not so eager about the skulls....and you even had to kill some bulkheads for these....argh^^

the mesh is one heck of a cool and (don´t get me wrong on this here) easy way to add lots of texture to your models...i want to experiment with flymesh on my next tankproject... do you think this might work?

You would have to stretch the screen mesh tight as it is not a metal mesh, glue-stretch-glue, but it could be done.

well i had planned to make it used via pva coat anyway.... maybe aply first and then cut to size later on...what do you think of this way?

If making it an engine gril, make the hole, make sure that inside the hole you have space to glue the screen to, and cut the size that will be just big enough to glue to those spaces that are not the hole inside the screen cover plate that will not be shown. Add rivets to the outside that will show like my screens have done.

to be honest i thought about using the mesh for a kind of armor type... you know as texture for the plates...

I have seen such on some vehicles, but mostly as extended away from the main hull of the vehicles like the Strykers, that is a way to pre-detonate the RPG's . It might fit your Viktorians as well. the mesh glued to the cardboard to make a new feel to the metals they are using! but also makes great engine cover grills.

Thanks guys. I've tried using the vinyl flymesh before, the problem is that it it vinyl, the only thing that sticks to vinyl is good Super Glue. Which is what I used to secure the aluminum mesh too. I don't think PVA or plastic glue would hold vinyl.

If vinyl, he could coat the the cardboard with super-glue and attached the mesh, then PVA over it when dry to have a stronger surface, as well as protect from paint!

If he could find a way to press the vinyl mesh into the surface board without sticking his fingers to it and ruining it.

Wet paper towels on his fingers would do.

My fingers are still encrusted with CA from this mesh. Wouldn't the wet paper towel stick too?

I know I avoid gluing the mesh where you can see, because once it's painted it looks like Gak.

I was really in the zone on this project. I had plenty of supplies, but believe it or not, I could still use more I-Beams - This project was a parts hog!
The reason for doing this was because I really wanted to use the zigzag girder styrene. This crap is expensive compared to other styrene ($3.29 per 12" piece) But OMG is it versatile. Physics still apply, even at this 28mm "Heroic" scale. It really does supply excellent load-bearing qualities, allowing you to span greater lengths of space without fear of breaking or bending. And it looks extremely cool IMO.

Stunning work. I am awed. So much detail, so many amazing ideas. You've done as well on this as any other thread I've seen on Dakka, and that means exactly what it is meant to mean. This project is right up there with the best. Well done.

The trick is that it allow you to move off the glue if you do not stay to long. The water allows you to slide but just once per session, it can be paper towel intensive.
