Wow, that dunecrawler thing looks really cool. I don't think I've seen that type of conversion.

Cool thanks! Also I was looking at pigments to use for the guys since the temple is obviously ruined and shot up. Is brown marble brown all the way through? or is it white underneath? Because if it is white I got some pigments already but if it is brown I was thinking about this color

Thanks FSU! So far I haven't seen anyone doing a dark mechanicus army on here or in my area personally also.

Sorry for lacking on the updates everyone, I have been fairly busy and I haven't had the painting bug lately. Well I am happy to say that I entered my dunecrawler into my local GW's monthly painting competition (which happened to coincide with its 2nd birthday party) and I won! By a landslide actually, it was a good competition and we had a lot of entries. I ended up picking open category again and I think I may be converting up an ironstrider for the dark gods.

Also I finally got around to buying my BaC box set today and I got another 10 man sprue on its way to give me an even 40 legionnaire marines along with my special units and the shadow lord himself. I also put in a forgeworld order to shore up any missing units and characters to get my list up to a nice 2-2.5k list size. Also in the next few days I will be making a special announcement that I am excited to share!

Well deserved win, the Dunecrawler is fantastic! Looking forward to some Heresy! Do you have a particular theme in mind for the force, or is it just general Heresy-era?

Thanks man! Well they will all be in mk 6 armor so fluff wise they didn't get that until they were back at deliverance so that would be post drop site. But I plan on running Maun (who was on the first wave in on the drop site but was "never found") so it's kinda muddled . I will say I will never run corax as post drop site as he is just terrible rules wise.

Thanks edc! I gotta wait for my forgeworld and bases to come in before I start to work on it. So I will be using to the next week or so to tie up any loose ends I got laying around (Half finished models, the paint my mini thread models) and start work on my Ironstrider for next months painting competition.

Great work on the Dunecrawler, and I like the choice of color scheme too. That blue really makes it stand out, and is a nice change to the standard red.

Sorry for the late response on this but here you go, I tried to use that program para suggested in the thread and it worked but I don't know if my camera on my phone is up to snuff for it

As for the skin tone, I do a base of Administratum grey, agrax wash heavy, then re layer with administratum and then do a mix of white scar and administratum (I eye ball it to be honest) and highlight the bridge of the nose, eyebrows and cheek bones. I hope that helped!

Thanks man! I was tired of seeing red and yellow done all the time and that color scheme is one of my favorites so I decided to give it a whirl. Thankfully it worked out

Just checked out your jump pack chaplain. He is nice, the conversion worked out really well. I was thinking of making mine the recon leader guy. Vigilator I think he is called. Camo up that cape.

I did mine as a Vigilator, actually, pretty simply conversion. Swap the Crozius forearm for basic bolter forearm, then veeery carefully carved out the pointing hand of a Terminator Chainfist (if you have a Tactical/Grey Knight squad pointing hand bit in your bits box, it'll be a lot easier!), cut and turned the forearm of the extended arm, added the hand, added various paraphernalia around the belt. Actually, I've made that sound way more complicated than it actually was!

I felt that he came out nice also, the second one will be an actual 30k model. So I am going to make sure he has a pair of lightning claws and one of those cool dark fury jump packs (since I want the chaplain to be in the squad) so may as well make him look like the squad a bit. But what do you think you will kit your guy out with?

Alright so on my way out the door today I noticed two packages on my porch, turns out my bases, weathering pigment, pigment fixer and final BaC squad showed up today. Sadly I had work and school so I did not get much done besides washing the bases. So I got enough for 40 tactical legionaries, 10 more deythan, 10 dark furies, 2 apothecaries, 1 fire raptor, 2 contemptors, 1 special character, 5 terminators and a few left over 32mms for any other models I may come up with. The idea is basically to copy what para did with his brown marble and then since they are ruined temple bases to put some weathering powder around the bottom of their legs.

No problem man! I hope I was of some help, the RG are easy to do once you figure them out it just takes some practice.

Also here is a picture of the weathering powder I picked up from SWM, in person I don't know if it is quite the right color I am looking for since I am going with brown marble. I think it would have to be a bit of light brown and grey mixed together to get it right. But what do you all think? You can see that it is grey mixed with a bit of green and the tiniest hint of yellow

Alright everything is chugging along at a good pace, I got the ten dark furies washed tonight and should have them built and on their bases by friday along with the remaining mor deythan. Luckily for me the weather seems to be breaking towards the warmer side and it looks like I will have two good priming days this coming friday and saturday to take advantage of.

I also started work on my dark mechanicus dragoon, not a whole lot of conversions here, just a new lance and a banner to fly off of the back. I took it from a scion box and filed down all of the markings and will take some emery cloth (400+ grit) and try to smooth it out so it isn't as rough. I am not seeing a whole lot of ways to use tentacles on this one so I am just leaving it to the three I have and instead will focus on the banner and free hand on this one to make it more chaos like.

Alright so after work last night I was able to pick up some 400 600 and 1500 grit sandpaper to work on the banner and it did the trick. The banner is super smooth now and I believe will be much easier to paint on, and I decided to put some more chaos stuff on the walker. Specifically a gargoyle dirge caster head on the back where there was a blank spot and some chaos back spikes from the chaos lord terminator kit on the flat housings next to the rider just to make it look a bit more sinister. I also got to work on the vanguard squad, I am deciding to just give them all of the upgrades I can on the models since I will be running the war convocation, so why not? The models don't have a whole lot of room for any chaos bits so they will more depend on transfers or free hand on their cloaks (which I am looking forward too), but I was able to fit a chaos icon on the backpack of the sgt so that will at least set him apart a bit from the rest of the squad.

@para thanks! I should be getting paint on him soon, but it will a lot slower than the dunecrawler. Two papers are going to be due in about four weeks so it will be slow going on him, but I will try and get some time on him every day.

As the title states I am finally in the building phase of my legion! Last night I got ten dark furies built and based along with ten mor deythan rebased/partially built. The dark furies are stupid good imo and will only get better with the new red book when they will all get mastercrafted rending pairs of lightning claws for free instead of buying them with no points change. Sadly the mor deythan did increase in points in the new book but they are still pretty damn good.

When messing around with battlescribe I ended up making a chaplain model just to see how many points he would come out to be to add to my dark fury squad so they can get that sweet sweet zealot and hatred rules. Well it turns out he can also take a pair of ravens talons pretty cheap too. So I ended up kitbashing one together from the dark fury set and the BaC chaplain, I am still waiting on my dark fury jump pack ebay purchase so he will stay like this until the end of the month but I am liking him so far. He does have a very Shakespeare look to him so I am thinking of adding a skull or maybe one of the heresy helmets to his hands, what do you all think?

Lastly I started on a test base for my army using paradigm's brown marble recipe...and of course I didn't get it quite right. But I really do like it and I think I will keep it as it feels pretty unique and it still offers the color contrast I was looking for. Though I am not sold on the base rim color, what do you all think?

To be honest, I'm not seeing any issue with that base. It looks like marble, where it differs from time is that it's a lot smoother (mine is more rough/natural marble) but that's no bad thing given the temple theme. I say black rims, but then I've always preferred them no matter what's on the base itself.

Furies look epic, I may well have to get some to add to my own force at some point. As far as the Chaplain goes, I absolutely love the pose (and yes, he needs a helmet in the outstretched hand, MkIV or Indomitus Terminator, I say, Alpha Legion or Night Lords colours...) , but the claws seem to be a little too far along the arm; if you look at most PF-like weapons, the glove part begins almost adjacent to the elbow. So if it's not too late, I'd definitely look at trimming the arm down a little further and adding the claws back on. Sorry to be so nitpicky, it's just an awesome concept and model thrown of slightly by the jarringly long arms.

Yeah it took me about 20 minutes for me to start to like it. But it was mainly started by realizing the Shakespeare connection

Yeah that is what I was trying to convey with the gloss was that it was polished marble, though in the broken bits I may not gloss and instead put down weathering powder to shown that it was broken. Or at least put gloss on the broken bits and weathering powder.

The dark furies are amazing models and you really should get a squad or two for your shattered legions (or hell even mor deythan because fatal strike is amazing with combi flamers) As for the chaplain I was able to saw his army down a bit and re attach it a bit further down, does it look a little more natural? I feel like it is a lot more, you were right the first picture really made me think his arm was way too long. I also added a helmet and skull to see what people think looks cooler so let me know what you all think!

Yep, that looks way more natural now. I think it looks great with the helmet, where that wins over the skull is that it 'points' back to the head/torso that will be the focal point of the model, little things like that can make a huge difference to the overall composition.

Definitely add some powder to the broken bits, you'll get a really nice contrast with that!

That is a good point, now I gotta choose a good traitor legion to paint it was to give it some contrast!

I will be building my BaC contemptor today and I also got a forgeworld raven guard one on its way. So which base should the BaC dread get? Obviously the less cool of the two so I was thinking the one with the giant letter, but what do you all think?

Slow past two days, I was only able to prime the deythan and the furies along with some combi weapons and the contemptor. Sadly I cannot paint them yet as I am waiting on the off black forgeworld paint to use on these guys and my order will not be in for two weeks or so (kinda miffed because I forgot to check the free express shipping button on the website and FW did not get back to me until four days after the package had been shipped). But on slightly better news my new KR case came in today and man this thing is nice! The foam is super soft and and the cardboard cases plus the case itself make for sturdy protection.

Well after finishing up a paper for my history class I was able to get a lot of work in on the dragoon. Almost everything major is done on him barring small details, transfers, weathering etc. I am still not a huge fan of his helmet, what do you guys thing? Maybe switch him to the same color as the gargoyle head/shoulder/seat metal color? Its the same one jan used on his tech priest, also I am still wondering how to paint the servitor. Maybe in a grey scheme just to keep him neutral with the blue for his armor plates.

Anyways here is my first WIP shot of the beast, the flag came out surprisingly well for me filing it down so much with one side being super smooth (that is where I am going to put the transfer) and the rough side will get some free hand chaos stars and binary just to spice things up.

Looking good, live the blue! The helmet does look a little out of place, but that's just as easily solved by adding more of that colour somewhere else as repainting it. Perhaps on the Chaos trophy rack behind him?
