Ok,
I've seen several posts in the past that recommended the use of frag cannon furioso dreds. I run one in my list but I feel like I missed something as it's not been too effective so far. Is it the str 6 for easy wounds that folks like so much? It's AP - so I assume everyone would get an armor save against it still right? If that isn't the case please correct me.
I drop pod the fragnaught into flame range and then assault next turn. I've always gotten the shots off and assaulted (av13 ftw) but it rarely kills more than two models despite a ton of wounds dealt.

Drop pod frag dread is one of my fave units so far but then i play against 2 horde armys. Drop it next to there troops and rape face. I always stick a hvy flamer on aswel for extra lulz. Killed 16 termigaunts in one go in my last game makin its points back.
People will change there tactics to counter it, my group take adl now as standard for intercept.

I've always liked frag dreads, they almost always make there points back and do a pretty good job of disrupting the enemy line.
What units have you been sending yours against?

Frag cannons are assault 2 and rending. A good drop a
Followed by a good attack roll could easily kill a devastator unit, lootas, any backfield fire support team really. It also fries a huge chunk of horde infantry. I like the fragnought.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

That's it? Normal Dreadnoughts can take an Assault cannon that is Assault 4 and Rending and already has a base AP4. So what is the point of taking the Furioso for the Frag cannon?

Because it's a template weapon.

Because template weapons ignore cover and don't roll to hit. If you are only getting two kills out a fragnought, you are playing it wrong, or you are taking on the luckiest players alive with armor saves. Oh, it rends, too. So any "6"s are AP 2 no cover save.

Assault 2, Template, so it ignores covers, and drops the template twice without rolling to hit.
It's also AV13, so you can land point blank and the ADL and triple roast the unit manning it (use heavy flamer too).
You can fire that S7 at my AV13 all game long if you want.
My favorite part is turn 2, when the dreadnought steps up and mans YOUR quadgun.
AV13/12/10 with S10 power fist and 3 templates raises hell in the backfield.
The downside? It means the rest of the Army is Blood Angels.

I find that plague marines tend to put a firm stop to the fragnaught. Between the two flamers, I usually land a lot of wounds but saves followed by fnp tend to stop almost all wounds from going through.
HA! good point. I totally didn't notice the rending on a 6 part. That might be part of my troubles.
Thanks!

Well plague marines are a pretty harsh example. CSM lists are also known to have cultists. I know where I'm sending my fragnought.

Well there's your problem. You are using an anti-light infantry unit on heavy infantry. The rend would help, but I wouldn't trust it. Safer to go after light infantry or small squads of MEQ.
