Ok so a new store just opened up from my house with a 15-30 min walk, it is amazing and nice. That is not the problem. Yesterday a semi-regular came into a different store(The one i play at now) advertising the new to all the people and saying how much better it is, how how he is tire of not getting a game in at our store(At most we have about 4 games at a time). Now me and this guy have a history, fights, insults and stuff, everyone is happy him and his boys are leaving. The problem is I want to go to this new store to get an extra game a week. But with him there and another guy i know(He was the one who originally put me off tournaments because he was the stereotypical tournament player you hear about), im not sure I want to go. Should I go to this new store(I already do it for RPG's) for 40k to get some more experience, or should just avoid it?

In typical gamer fashion: Roll a dice.

In actual advice: Why not give it a chance. Or is this relationship so vitriolic you wouldn't want to risk it?

Kinda, everyone was relieved he left. Him, his sons and me where the only ones who got 0 sportsmanship. He baited me into arguing with him which lead to the 0 sportsmanship.

Screw them. Not literally of course. Do what makes you happy. If you want to game at the new store then do so. Do not let a D-bag dictate where/when you play.

Peace.

Just don't play any games with the guy. Be the bigger adult and just tell him politely that you aren't interested if he asks you to play. "oh no thank you" can go a long way.

It's just like dealing with anyone you don't get along with in any other situation.

That was totally my advice. This is a redundant post.

Whoah, being a bigger adult, being polite? Carl, this is the internet we're talking on here, these things don't exist.

But with that being said, Carl's right

Some people might insist on you giving them a reason, though, and want to argue about how valid that reason is. They would totally be missing the point about the "fun" aspect of the game at that point in time, but it might be enough to ruin it for me.

Not sure what you're trying to say there.

You live within 15 minutes walking distance. You're trying the store out because it's convenient, not because of this guy. You need to let go of your conflict avoidance issues and just go to the new store and have fun. After telling him no a few times, he'll get the message.

and if he doesn't claim he touched you in a bad way and donkey kick him in the nuts.

In all seriousness, again do what you want and do not let someone else prevent you from having fun.

Peace.

If you feel that going to this new store and having to interact with this person will cause you unnecessary stress on a regular basis, then don't. There are often many sources of stress beyond out control to begin with, so try to control the ones you can.

He lives there now? He's there all day every day in every part of the building? Avoiding him shoudn't be that hard. Ask the owner of the new store which days/times your mate comes in and come in on other days and times.

He is going their designated night for warhammer 40k. Which is when most 40k players go.

You could start out at that shop by playing games there that he does not. If he is a 40k exclusive guy, bring fantasy. If he plays 40k and fantasy, bring warmachine. Even if he is there the same time as you it should provide fewer chances for confrontation as you decide if the two of you can coexist.

To make decisions in a vacuum with my own limited view is not something I like to do. I know very few people who have had to deal with a bad player before like this, So i was wondering If other people on dakka have had to deal with a bad player like this before, and see what they did.

The sad thing is, I have seen stores 'go out of business' because a local group of terrible people who wore out their welcome at the main store, immediately besieged a new start-up store. They turned it into their 'turf' almost immediately and it got so bad that it was basically "Hey, You play at that other store? you are not welcome here!"

I agree that I don't have to be part of a turf war every time I decide to go game.

You could just try to bury the hatchet, perhaps? If he tries to start an argument, you could try acknowledging that you've fallen out in the past then suggest everyone gets over it and offer to make a fresh start. It's a toy soldier game, after all.

But wait, what if he offers you a game at the new shop with the intention of trying to goad you again? In that case, accept, and with lessons learned from previous experience don't argue with him. Be the mature one. When rules arguments arise just offer to settle it with as roll-off if he is truly intractable. That way when everyone else sees him showing off and shouting and you being calm they will know who the bad player is.

If either option is unworkable, simply ignore him and play with other people.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

That may not be an option, there was ALOT of vitriol, to the point where he still, 2 or so months later, he still casually insults my army.

Never let other people take away your choices. Go. Be yourself. Ignore them. You could get games in on nights he's not in charge.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Go, and the very first time he bad mouths you or your army, go to the store owner and tell him that this jerk is insulting you and making a negative environment and that you're strongly considering taking your business elsewhere as a result. But buy something first so the owner can see that he might actually be losing business because this regular is driving people like you away.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
