I'm scratch building/helping a necron pylon and a couple other titans/superheavies and I need a good source of 1mm cardboard so I was wondering if the boxes that 40k models amd cereal come in would work?

Just beware of using cardboard...it is going to be very easy to damage.

When I scratch-build a Monolith I found cereal boxes too thin. I'd at least double-layer them.

I ended up using most of the cardboard coincidentally from my monolith box as it was a good thickness.

And remember that by using GW boxes, you still have a model made from 100% GW materials...

Um - it's nowhere near 1mm thick.
I would suggest going to an art shop & looking at the different thicknesses available.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

From my time with assembling paper models i know how essential internal supports are. Even thinner cardbord can be quite sturdy if the supports are well executed.
So i would suggest build them into your model for additional support, especially if the original plans you follow doesn't have those. That means additional work and planing but especially on larger open spaces inside your model it helps. Otherwise those areas will be easy to damage and even gravity might be enough to deform your scratchbuild over time.
I would even say that this is better than double layering the cardbord. And be aware that the more weight you put on larger cardbord models in form of additional details the stronger the support needs to be.

You can also strengthen cardboard with a layer of torn newspaper stuck down with diluted PVA. It can turn somewhat flimsy boxes into something quite substantial.

I am not a wargamer, nor do I play one on television.

Coating card with diluted pva and water will also strengthen it to some extent. As someone mentioned in an earlier post go visit your local art shop and have a look at their sheets of card; normally they are A1 size and would be a more sturdier choice.

My art supply stores are either far too expensive for the amount I need or do not carry any 1mm card so the pva idea is what I will probably do

Beware though, that coating card with PVA can sometimes cause it to warp. This is especially true if you only coat one side. The PVA shrinks as it dries and pulls the card in one direction.

For superheavies and other large models, consider making a frame out of Corrugated cardboard and then facing it with the thinner cereal card. then you get the best of both worlds.

Foamcore is also a stong material for making the model that can later be detalied and smoothed with layers of cheap cereal card.
