Any Xenos players said that we just got another round of fortifications and no options for xenos bunkers or weapons?
Sure, you can eldar out a wall, and scatterlaser up a quadgun; but it's still a quadgun and not a scatterlaser, or pulse laser, or whatever.

I was disappointed the Apoc did include rules for Xenos versions of bunkers and emplacement weapons.

The firestoem redoubt is great for nids, as it doesn't require a model to interact with it.

I think he meant more that GW absolutely refuses to manufacture xenos terrain/fortifications.

Putting new race-specific fortifications in new codexes would have been a moneyspinner, and xenos terrain would likely sell well also.

I'm not fussed, I would only build my own anyway. But I can understand why all the other Xenos players are hating on GW's species-ist fortifications

Dat Firestorm Redoubt though, if thats half as good as I think it is I'm totally non-fussed that its an Imperial model... small price to pay to be able to laugh at my helldrake spamming opponents

orks can always loot imperial stuff.

Eldar and Tau can have their own versions that just happen to have the same stats.

But yeah, it would be nice to have some non-imperial fortifications.

Scotland, but nowhere near my rulebook

My main problem with it is that it casts the Imperium as permanently on the defensive, against everyone. Even during fights when the Imperium isn't present.

Lord Solar Macharius, come back, all is forgiven. Except that you're dead.

I love when people say "this would obviously sell".

Ultimately Games Workshop can only create so many products at any given time. They aren't in possession of some magical miniatures making machine. There are only so many creative assets to go around at any given time. So that means if everyone and their mother wants a new codex book, and updated models, and that means writers and artists and sculptors not working on other projects.

If Games Workshop isn't doing something that "would obviously sell", it's because they're already working on other projects that have been forecasted to sell more. And they've learned that they need to be able to have models for everything that has rules so they can protect the IP.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

So far the only xenos to get their own forts are the Necrons with their "You can play a small game on this" Tomb citadel.

Runnin up on ya.

It obviously would sell. Witness all the 3rd party suppliers out there with "space elf" and "alien mech" themed aegis defense line stand ins. Heck, Chapterhouse just finished a successful kickstarter for this type of product.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Well they did move sensor towers into fortification so technically "do" have one.

Ehh, Xenos just nick some IoM fortifications, and bring them to every battlezone, along with the skulls they claimed!

Luckily my Earth Cadre scientists are currently hard at work reverse engineering a "short wall" and "4 guns pointing up" - hopefully a breakthrough for the greater good is imminent.

Last I heard Brush 4 Hire was doing some good stuff on the Xenos terrain and fortification front, and Burn in Designs has some cool stuff (though it is mostly balsa wood). One that I've never heard about anyone actually using but which looks pretty good is the Wargamma linked baracades and quad gun sets.

Which is clearly why every piece of terrain they release has to be Imperial...

Wait... no it isnt.

The number of new kits being released isn't the issue. The focus solely on Imperial terrain is.

Yeah, but consider for a second why that is. They sell more Imperium faction models (Marines and IGuard) than anything else. So you target your fortifications at those same factions. If there are going to be Imperium models in just about every game, then that terrain is almost always useful. It makes for a coherent aesthetic in their terrain too. Everything you buy from them looks like it belongs on the same battlefield, thus making additional pieces desirable too.

If you had an Imperial trench line, and an Imperial bunker, and then suddenly, an Eldar tower... it is incongruous, and you have less reason to buy the Eldar tower because it is totally out of place on that battlefield most of the time.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I look at it this way.

It just means the IOM is losing every battle, as every fight is on a ruined IOM world

Still wouldn't kill them to make one or two Xeno scenery pieces, rather than the endless skulls and eagles decor..

It mostly allows for creative modeling; I know a guy who built an Aegis Defense Line out of halved skimmer bases to make a sort of energy shield line for his Tau (though it looked like the Eldar Guardians' energy shields in Dawn of War 2) and put an ion cannon on the quad-gun emplacement. Not to mention if you've got an interested gaming group it's not hard to house-rule in your own fortifications; Eldar don't do stationary guns much, but we made a Webway Portal with tentative pricing (AV12, 4++ save from energy fields, people coming on from Reserves can come on from the portal instead of a table edge, 75pts) and a Waystone (AV12, 4++ save from its supernatural nature, psykers (friend or foe) within 6" reroll failed psychic tests, 50pts).

I also really wish they'd put out some Xenos terrain. While it's easy enough to Orkify or Chaosify the Imperial stuff, Eldar and Tau are basically left to scratchbuilds, which not everyone is good at. Chapterhouse's new defence lines look fantastic, though, and I'll definitely be getting one of the space elf ones.

Eldar shenanigans are the best shenanigans!

GW has produced some ork 'fortifications' in the past : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1510000&setLocale=en_AU

but they are quite over priced!

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

Thats really nothing more than an orky ADL alternative without the gun. And any true Ork player has plenty of bits to make his own barricades.
