Hi guys, here is my test model for all the Dinos I'll be using in my LM army. I didn't want to shell out for the kit, so I found a much, much cheaper option.

Here he is:

The Dino was one piece and I have 2 Lizardmen shields on it, so it is 50% GW parts.

Thanks,

Lucarikx

Great work. I want my own Trex now:/

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Looks really cool dude. I'm imagining him towering over all the other minis--how big is he compared to a normal infantry sized model?

I think the shields look just a little silly. It's this ferocious T-rex with these teeny-tiny should pads on. If it weren't for the fact that I'd be running screaming for my life I might chuckle at it. Except, you know, screaming and running away, probably not fast enough. Looks cool otherwise. Nice work on the base and the bloody drooling maw.

Thanks for the replies, guys! The shields do look a bit wonky, but I gotta have em if i want to use it at a GW

Heres a size comparison pic:

Spoiler:

Sorry for the crummy picture, I didn't have my photo setup out. The little blue blob near the bottom is a Skink.

Thanks,

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

It is a good model, however I would add on a few straps and things as at the moment the shoulder shield pads look a little silly.

While the paint job is nice, and I wouldn't mind playing you myself, I'd be really surprised if a GW actually let you use this in their stores.

I agree with Zoned here. I love what you've done with the dino thus far, but I'd suggest adding some more lizard bits here and there to hide the fact its a toy.

Maybe get some greenstuff and add some feathers or armour down its back? get some skinks riding it or some more rigging on it hanging down to mask its form somewhat.

As I said, its a great find, and I love what you've done with it, but I think its always worth going the extra mile and try to move it as far away from 'toy like' as possible

Seeing pics of giant vicious dinos always makes me think of the game Turok, boy do I miss that game. But great model, I would agree with others that if you add some straps and a guy riding it with a couple feathers or even spikes on the back a bit I would say it would look pretty crazy awesome.

The shoulder pads just need to be darkend to fit him. They stick out like a soar thumb. I would also take everyones advice and GS some straps and armor plates maybe some shin gaurds.

They may be produced as toys but Papo dinosaurs are some of the best I've seen. Schleich are good too.

I don't play the games but it's always struck me as a bit OTT to say you can't play with something someone else has manufactured because we didn't make any money out of it. Still, I didn't think GW wanted you to play in their shops at all these days.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I agree about the straps/shields, I definitely need to work on it more.

Just asked my local GW manager about using him, and I got a flat no. I don't really mind as our group is fine with proxying, and I have a dragon I can use.

Thanks,

Lucarikx

It looks fantastic, except for those shields! Since GW said no, take 'em off or paint them a duller color. You can use it everywhere else

Where's the rider?

Thanks, RiTides! The shields are actually tacked on ( ) so taking them off won't be a problem.

As for the rider, I'm waiting for bitz websites come out with the actual Carnosaur rider. If all else fails I'll convert a Temple Guard.

Excellent, be sure to post up pics with the rider when you do add it . Just tacking on the shields was a smart idea!

Did the TRex come prepainted, and what did you add to it? I assume the blood in the mouth and the basing is all yours. The paint job looks really good, too... at first I assumed you did it but looking closer maybe it came that way?

Nope, here's how it came:

I should be able to grab some GS tomorrow, I'll try to get some pics once I have the straps done.

From past experience in my local GW I've found that the best way to get around the whole 'not our mini so gtfo' issue is to make it so detailed or bashed together (depending on if you play orks or not) that its very difficult to tell what its actually made from in the first place.
I've played with 100% plasticard built wagons before, with people just assuming I've used GW bits and converted it up. One member of staff took to using my minis as a selling point to new gamers if I was ever in the store to discuss how 'creative the hobby can be' too, so using custom minis is definitely doable.

Normally Rule of Cool is something to consider too - the more awesome a mini looks, the less people are going to complain about it or put their foot down and say no.

I'd say take a hobby knife to that dino and give him some battle scars, random WHFB bits dotted around the place and make him a lot more detailed if you can, with maybe scaled armour or rags held down by straps. How about some pikes or other fantasy weapon offcuts sticking out of its flanks like its seen combat? Go nuts and get some more details on him, whatever you fancy, and it'll turn out great ^_^

Also for the record, I'd be happy enough going up against that the way it is atm - the above are only a few personal choices/ideas for if you did want to add more to it

I like the shields, though I think a few more like across his forehead and down his spine might help. Very nice paintjob! The gore in his mouth is especially nice!
