I'm looking to start a CSM army, and want to add havocs. However, the kit GW sells seems unfocused and expensive (like this plan isn't), so I thought I'd take a CSM combat squad and give them the Horus Heresy autocannon set. How well do the ammo packs from these fit on plastic CSM backpacks/models, does anyone know? Or am I wrong about the contents of a havoc box?

I was planning to do the same thing and from what I've heard they fit on well.

The standard CSM pack pack needs a bit of carving work to get it to fit. Plus if you're using them on plague marines, getting the arms to fit is a real bugger.

A friend of mine just did this and it looks amazing. they fit on well after a bit of cutting.

If you want autocannons and don't have problems useing 3rd party bitz why not use anvil industry ones? they come with arms attached are nicely detailed and are even cheaper than the FW pack. Although they do not have a special backpack or backpack extension.
