As above.
I am wondering what would the stats of the weapon be.
If it is crazily over-powered. Then I guess we won't be seeing a lot of heldrakes after september.
Is it common practice for GW to buff army tht get their codex later?(Necron being the last of the 5th edition)
If the new aa tank is super over powered then the CSM codex just lost its most competitive/cheesy unit. :(
What do you guys think?

It would throw a wrench into a lot of the Chaos Space Marine armies that are being played in my local area. But I think that codex: CSM has a lot more to offer than just spamming helldrakes and perhaps it would change the local play style a little.
But honestly who knows, it is a rumor for now so it is not something to get jumpy about.

Good. There needs to be more ground based skyfire in the game that isn't a fortification.

I am not saying that the drake is a MUST. It is just too good to not use it. (If you use it you might lose friends) lol
But have they( GW) done it before? Giving army tht got their codex later some over-powering stats so they can sell the kits?
Just wondering.. Hmmm.

It's looking like autocannons, and even if it's some new weapon it'll probably still be S7. That's pretty standard for AA. It kind of depends whether or not it has Interceptor and how many points it costs.

This is true. As a Tau player I feel bad for other armies that have no way to deal with flyers outside of fortifications.

This - without Interceptor, nobody will use it. Just look at the Hydra.

If it's 80 points with 6 str7 shots, It doesn't really need interceptor. +50 points if you want interceptor. IMHO

Interceptor or with no Interceptor, if that thing shoots decently, it will be fielded. Anything but simply "Flakk" missiles or other flyers. Hydra is still a pre-6th tank that got a small buff, so I'm hoping for a 6th edition oriented AA.

If it doesnt have interceptor or a similar skyfire rule tau have (it allows tau to turn it on and off) it will fire snaps at ground units. I could see that being a deterrant to getting it because it takes up a foc slot you might want something else in.
I agree more g2a shooting needs to appear. Some armies only deal with fliers because of sheer number of shots...like lootas... But some dont even have that

The *only* times I can think of that this was done were with brand new unit types like Stormtalons and Dakkajets, and with Daemons, who had a White Dwarf update only a few months before their new Codex came out and changed the rules again.
The former isn't likely to happen again any time soon since it was all tied to the release of 6th edition. With no new Codexes at the time the rules for these brand spanking new flyers (and later, chariots) had to come from somewhere. The latter was either a blatant money grab from Tzeentch Flamers and Discs probably not selling that well, or a horrible design failure that they had to reverse in the Codex release (I'm betting it's the money thing).

The fact it has two turrets and can (rumored) split fire, give it interceptor, take 2 of them and you have a very decent amount of AA firepower. If it is really good, could see a lot of marine allied detachments popping up everywhere for imperial players.

Exactly. It does not matter if a unit has Skyfire with high ROF weapon. Without Interceptor it is not a proper air defense unit.
What is the SOP of flyers in 6th? Kill the air defense and then proceed with killing everything else at your leisure. Case in point: the IG Hydra.
It is supposed to be the Guards default ground based AA unit but it fails in its role. If you start on the table ( you do want to protect your ground assets right? ) the enemy air forces fly to the
scene and shoot/vector strike you. AV 12/10/10 does not give very good chances at surviving a first strike.

I am kinda wondering if the stabilizing jack thingies on the side may play into its interceptor potential, perhaps it has to "deploy" in a previous turn to fire as interceptor in the following, or maybe must be stationary...since it seems they went to the trouble of adding a obvious visual piece of equipment.
At any rate my marines malevolent welcome their new "Gepards"

That big cannon one does look better based on the pics we've seen so far, but of course a proper 360 would tell more. Who knows which will be better in-game, though. Most likely gonna get one of these, gotta keep my Rhino hull collection up to date after all

I guess the Stalker will have split fire and lots (6+) of Str 6 AP4 shots (maybe twin-linked) while the Hunter will have one Str 8 or 9 shot, AP 2 and maybe ignoring jink (guided Missile or something).
I also think that they will get some form of advantage if they remain stationary (or a disadvantage when moving).
So the Hunter would be better vs AV12 fliers while the Stalker would be used against massed light flyers

The bigger gun has to have at least str 9 single target, anything less would be ridiculous for such a big barrel.
Hard to say how much the rapid fire variant will shoot. But I suppose 4-6 autocannon shots could be close.

I personally think that anything weapon taht has skyfire that is higher than str 8 is abit over power. Automatically Appended Next Post: tvih wrote:The bigger gun has to have at least str 9 single target, anything less would be ridiculous for such a big barrel.

I would agree. Or probably like heavy 2. str 7 ap 4.
The bigger guns might have a barrage weapon that it can switch to rather thatn skyfire. These guys would probably be AV 12.
