Here's what I've got at the moment, my opponent is going Ork and we've agreed to a small 500 point game.

HQ.

Interrogator chaplain, Crozius Arcanum and Plasma Pistol. 125 points
5 Man Tactical Squad, Vet sarge replaces chainsword for boltgun and Plasma cannon 85 points
5 man Tactical Squad, As above, 85 points
Dev Squad, Sarge with a Boltgun Las Cannon x2 Missile Launcher x2, 140 points
Librarian

That comes out bang on 500 if my maths are right.

Any comment/critique?

You truly have a low model count. 17 models where orks will propably have closer to 50. Those few small blasts aren't just good enough. And I somehow fail to see why you need plasma? I don't expect much high armour from orks. You need template-weapons and speed.

But to be honest, Marines vs. any horde army is a pure hell at this point level.

Well, to be fair, a couple of plasmas are good just incase he pops out a warboss or a Big Mek with 'Eavy Armor and Cybork.

Model count is way too low, that devastator squad is not needed, unless he decides to be a complete jerk, which is hard at this point level. I'd add a flamer or HB to thin out the orks.

True. Off the top of my head I could toss this at you at 500 points even (if you're holding to Force Org of 1 HQ and 2 Troops)::

110 points: 1 Big Mek w/ SAG, 'eavy Armor, & Cybork
120 points: 8 Lootas
210 points: 21 'Ard Boys with Shootas
60 Points: 10 boyz with shootas

36 models total and that's taking more toys than boyz (which is a cardinal sin for orks generally)


or I've seen this list chew up space marines at 500 points (if you're holding to Force Org of 1 HQ and 2 Troops):

100 points: MANZ Warboss
200 points: 5 MANZ (MegaNobz - can be taken as troops choice due to warboss)
180 points: 30 Boyz with shootas

another 36 models. Less if he decides to run the MANZ in a trukk or battlewagon to get them into your marines quicker.


If you're not holding to standard force org at 500 points then he can take close to a full squad of 'ard boyz on list one and a full squad of MANZ for list two by dropping the boyz mobs out of both lists.

Take 30 tactical marines with flamer/combi flamer, and a captain or librarian with a power weapon, thats all you should need really.

If you want to bring a dev squad.....4 HB dev squad should be pretty nasty and only costs 110 points.

so that's basically my inventory. When I say "Here's my list" it's cobbled together out of the models that I have to hand lol.

What I was thinking of doing was putting 2 flamers in the tactical squad, removing the LCs from the Dev squad and putting the PCs into it, giving me 2 missile launchers, 2 plasma cannons and 2 flamers, plenty of template weaponry

Yeah, I'd say to take lots of template weaponry at this level since he's more than likely to run a lot of Boyz in his list and templates are the bane of our existence with our measly 6+ save on a majority of our choices.
