Hi everysquid, I was wondering which of the two boarding shield variants (made by FW) would be more suiting to form a turtle formation or testudo, akin to that used in battle by the roman legions. I am going to model a Legion Breacher Seige squad forming said maneuvre, and I am not sure which version would offer greater cover for the Space Marines. The other choice would be to scratchbuild them, but those lovely FW shields are quite tempting! Any thoughts?

Are there no roman shields in 28mm produced anyware?

Fantastic idea and I hope it turns out as well as I'm imagining

Check Scibor miniatures. They have some 28mm roman legionnaire shields that should work.

I've also found a set on Shapeways but they're around $4 per sheidl (in sets of 10) and not nearly as nice looking.

I think the normal boarding shields would lock together more easily. The Heresy era breaching shields are a bit of a funny shape.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yeah you might be better of with the Scibor shields. They are 30mm tall and come in packs of 3. They also look suitibly Roman, if that was the look you were going for.

Alternatively you could try Maxmini's shields.
They have two types. Anti-riot gear and Mechanical shields

Depends if you wanna point the guns aka boarding shields or make a enclosed testudo. For enclosed my suggestion is Anvil Roman Shields. They are marine sized and cheap. Scibor ones are cool, but more pricey.

Oh livanbard, of course yes, how silly of me to forget the Anvil Industry shields.
Both Riot shields and Roman Tower Shields
