Don't worry, I did exactly the same a few days back with a GW IP infringement topic in news.

Turns out I'm the only person in the Western Hemisphere who didn't know....Finger on the pulse, nope not me.

So if it's free in the magazine it must be only a minor addition? Or you think they will do entire model range and such?

Yep, most of the models can be drawn from the existing WWII and Vietnam ranges. e.g. the SU-100s and T-34/85s

Depending on how the lists are arranged I may be tempted to modify some things from my mothballed Soviet army and start a force.

If they want to do this well, they need new models. If they would do BTR-60 family in plastics in same quality they did M113, I would shait bricks..

Despite promising myself I wouldn't start any new projects until next summer I'm really tempted to get into this. I really like the look of T-55s. If I can build a list with T-55s and T-34/85s in it I think I'm in.

I'm pretty sure the T-54/55s were in separate units from T-34/85s in the Egyptian army. I'm not sure about the Syrians and I think the Jordanians didn't use much WWII equipment at all if they used any.

The Egyptians did have T-34/85s and IS-3 (T-10s?) fighting in the same engagements a couple of times at least in '67 with SU-100s all over the place.

I have 21 T55s on the paint table right now. I hope I get to use them.

Having investigated a little, the homebrew Egyptian list allows a single platoon of T-55s in a T-34/85 company. They've got some punishing 'special' rules though, T-55s are -2 to hit if the move (RoF 1 and Hen and Chicks).

Why does every Soviet tank, even ones that aren't run by the Soviets, have Hen and Chicks?

Hell, if I'm fielding an American OPFOR unit, do I get Hen and Chicks simply by virtue of running Soviet armor? LOL

The IS-3 and the T-10 were different vehicles all together

Spoiler:

There's an IS 3

Spoiler:

And there's a T 10

The IS 3 saw combat in the 6 day war, I don't think the soviets ever exported the T 10 or used it in combat

Thanks for the reply EmilCrane!

I apologize I didn't mean to imply they were the same tank I meant I wasn't sure the T-10 was exported and used in combat in 1967. Teaches me not to post right after work. Anyway my hope is they include the IS-3 and make a model of it!

I ditched Hen & Chicks in my Cold War Homebrew because it was unrepresentative of the modern era. In WWII when the tanks were driven by ill educated peasants so the rules kind of works.

But by 1986 they were much more capable - with individual radios etc. Hen and Chicks is massively and needlessly debilitating - you need at least 4 to 1 in Tanks to mirror the WWII Swarm tactics and doing this with more modern tanks they would rip Abrams etc apart because the Tanks are actually really capable so you end up with lots of capable armour and it doesn't work or represent reality well. So I went with Smaller Platoons (3 Tank Platoons for Tank Regiment and 4 Tank Platoons for Motor Rifle as per the real world).

Hen and Chicks is outmoded post WWII in my opinion.

Not need to apologize, just wanted to clear up any misconceptions, and I'm right there with you in hopes for an IS3 model, I absolutely love that tank

The IS-III was used by the Egyptians to give long range gun support to the T-34/85s, T-54/55s and the T-62s.

I always liked the story that the Soviets sold them export models with heaters in them... while good for cold desert nights, the urban myth is that the Soviet heater had no off switch...

The Syrians had some WW2 German armour - Stugs, Panzer IVs, Jagdpanzer IVs and even some Hummels. They had some as late as '73 when they dug them in on the Golan Heights.

Jordanians had M113s and M47s ... Plus 100 Centurions and Saracens APCs. Lovely looking army to collect.

Any idea of the colour schemes, all the photo's I see are Black and White (for obvious reasons!).

I think I recall reading that in WWII Soviet Tank Companies, only the CO and and another tank could send/receive while all the others could just receive transmissions only. They had AM radios that only broadcasted on the company level, not the regiment/division. I could be mistaken, but I think this was at the beginning of the war; i believe later they upgraded their communications to FM radios with full send/receive transmitters, but i couldn't remember when this was done.

I thought Hen and Chicks was to represent that due to the INCREDIBLE casualty rate amongst soviet tank crews the only ones in a given company were the commanders, so there was very little initiative amongst the crews themselves, they just followed the lead tanks "Like a hen and her chicks"
