So I am going to give this game a whirl, picked up the Tohaa starter set (wanted to start a new faction)

From what i read the game intrigues me and I am always game to pick up a system that is less financially punishing then Games-workshop.

Good to hear that. Tohaa might be problematic because:

a) they don't have many models
b) they don't have many units
c) are fairly tough to play at first with many special rules

That said, they are fun and appeal to me visually as well. Good luck

Yeah I wanted to try and stick with one faction so I figure it is best to just dive in with them.

To be fair, there's plenty of special rules to keep track of with other factions. I have a friend starting Aleph, and after running our first game, I had a headache from keeping track of all of the special rules he and I had, with the game rules piled on top (which wasn't helped by both of us wanting to do some of the more complicated things like coordinated orders, speculative parabolic fire, jumping, hacking, etc).

Just go with the faction you want. It doesn't matter which way you go, you'll spend your first few games learning and making mistakes, so might as well do it with the faction you actually want.

Think there are plenty of Tohaa minis now for starting your own force. Certainly, they are going to be getting a lot of attention from CB as the newest faction, so it might be nice collecting stuff as you go along.

Don't think the special rules are too complex for them - certainly not on the same level of Aleph, as you tend to have a couple of rules (tridents, symbiote armour) that carry throughout most of the force.

Also think the minis are bloody gorgeous for them, although I suppose that's a subjective thing..

I agree and this is exactly what I was going for. I have way to much shiny object syndrome and it shows in my many failed 40k pursuits so I am trying to stick with one and only one faction.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I have a Corregidor force that I've been working on, but Tohaa suckerpunched me into a starter box.

Thank God I cannot find any of their blisters or Corregidor would be planning a move against me.

Yeah, gotta be honest, they really pulled through with the Tohaa models. Originally I wasn't a fan, but the starter models really grew on me. Then they followed it up with some absolutely fantastic stuff. The Gao Tarsos, Gao Raels, Chaksas, Makaul... Some great figs there.

I've been sorely tempted to grab the starter lately.

Just got mine in yesterday. I am loving the detail on them and this non-heroic scale 28mm I also like the added touch of the markers being added to the flaps in the box.

Just make sure you don't accidentally cut the hands off thinking they are flash, as a friend of mine did

Not to much of a problem with how the molds are set up, going to have to pin those damn tiny arms though :(

Honestly, I haven't pinned anything on my Infinity models, and the only model that's had something bread was a Nasmats little antennae. Just make sure you store and transport them well, and don't play soccer with the models, and you shouldn't need to pin them.

The minis I'm building at the moment are mounted on resin bases, so I've had to cut off the slotta bits and then use a pin between the foot and the base.

Other than that though think that's probably the only thing I've had to pin in 40-50 Infinity minis - just use a good medium/thick superglue like Roket or Zzzap (anything that costs £4-£5 is a safe bet)

Of course though, if you're a dab hand at pinning (and it takes 5 minutes) certainly there is no harm in doing it!

I am also using resin bases for the Tohaa and so far did not pin them. They're fine and the glue is holding them very sturdily.

Perhaps, I am just not comfortable with the small shoulder joints that leave little room for glue and using anything too thick will could potentially ruin detail. And as small as those arms are if one happens to fall off it could very easily get lost. I mean it is no big deal really, I only have 5 models, might as well take some time and make them sturdy.

Well, I get what you're talking about, I had arms snap and bend on my early models but that was usually because of my being careless.

Some of the models are really tiny, though and it is indeed a PITA to assembly them properly - especially the newer ones, like the Ectros or the Clipsos.

So to be a bit different, for my basing, I Am taking some hollow bases and filling them with actual concrete. Gives me the added bonus of weighting the minis and giving a very realistic look lol.

I have an idea to build a terrain set that is a construction yard so it would fit with that theme.

Also are we still taking pledges at all?

So broke my own rule a bit and just purchased a Nomads: Corregidor Jurisdictional Command Sectorial Starter Pack

It has about the same point value as my Tohaa kit and I can use it to help teach others to play.

Also they were my second choice when I bought the Tohaa.

Good god, I took a look at the Tohaa stuff after seeing this thread... those models are incredible

Especially their heavy infantry. Haven't seen anything that compares to them yet

Think so, too. Every faction in infinity uses alot of special rules and Tohaa make it relativly easyto start with. Though they got Symbiont Armor and Tridents they lack of other stuff like real hacking. Even now we got enough minis to play the game on a good level and we´ll be getting more stuff every month.

Steel Phalanx plays somewhat similar except with more emphasis on short range firepower. Modular link teams, multi-wound models and a weakness to fire. The 2 wound AD troops do make me jealous.

I think he is just referring to the models.

If we're talking about powerful AD, then the Ragik is also a nasty tool by virtue of having Vogged.

Don't have to tell me. A ragik shotgunned down one of my myrmidon links this week.

'Dogged' is the rule I just can't seem to commit to long term memory. You would believe how many times a Ragik or Muyib has been removed by some counter-fire and then 5 minutes later I've thought "oh, he had dogged"

Heh, it's one of the best rules for an AD jumper that exist. I don't use it that often on Muyibs because I run them in a Link with a Doctor, so I prefer to pick them up instead of throwing them away.
