Hi guys,

I didn't see this here on Dakka so I figured I'd post it up.

Interesting, I wonder how that'll turn out. I really hope they include cooperative multiplayer.

With the release so close to the other game my hoax alarm was ringing... then I saw the pictures, noticed Cyanide and checked out the main developers website and well, I may of squealed a little.

I am definitely interested in spending far too much time playing this game instead of painting the pile of actual physical plasticrack that I own.

This is another game with different IP Streum On developed. I just felt it has a really "grim dark" feel too it - aside from the tits.

Oh dear gods, Streumon are doing this? Please let them have a decent translator this time. E.Y.E. was a neat !40k game, but the written dialogue makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Definitely waiting on reviews for this one. Streumon don't have a great track record for quality-made, stable and bug free games in my experience.

I think Cyanide will keep them on the right track, the BB games had a suitably BB feel to them.

Maybe he meant a good first person shooter

I typed in the URL and got nothing but a 403 error, so either that magazine ad got leaked early or it's an extremely well done hoax. To anyone who hasn't heard of/played EYE Divine Cybermancy... well, it sure is a PC game. Kind of old school in the vein of System Shock 2 and Deus Ex, very gothic, very French. It's an odd duckling but a game I still enjoyed. I wouldn't say it's exactly palatable to the average gamer though, and I don't mean that in an elitist "unwashed console masses/PC gaming master race/stupid casuals" sort of way. It's just very strange. I'm cautiously looking forward to hearing more about this.

I played EYE. I really wanted to like it but it was a little difficult to understand what the feth was going on exactly. Like it's been said the game had some weird translation, and they don't really do a good job explaining how certain aspects work (like hacking). The way the game looked and felt reminded me a lot of 40k though.

What does a scantily clad, blindfolded woman have to do with Dark Angels?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Umm.. chaos cultist?! Just a complete guess..

While the Space Hulk game released was hardly the worst game I have ever played, I kind of felt like I paid about £15 too much for the experience.. will be waiting for a review of this one, regardless of how pretty it looks (or how many scantily clad nuns they use in the preview screenshots )

Don't you know, Dark Angels are terrified of scantily clad women.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I don't see how a Space Hulk FPS will be good. It will have none of the tension that characterises the board game and it will be, almost by definition, a corridor shooter. I hope that they have more enemies than Genestealers as well.

I expect this to be a pedestrian and easily forgetable game.

GW has some truly interesting settings that could make wonderful games yet all we seem to get a 'safe' and distincly average games. I hope that the game that Creative Assemby will at least be good though.

I would love to see a turn based Necromunda game or a Rogue Trader Colonisation/RPG hybrid.but I can't see it happening unfortunately.

I also love how all these Space Hulk video games are coming out so long after the extremely short-lived release of 3rd edition Space Hulk, it's almost like a movie tie-in game that was made so many years after the fact everyone already forgot about the movie and/or stopped caring.

Would have been good timing to do another printing of Space Hulk, or adding it to the catalog permanently in fact. Just like with Dawn of War you can at least attempt to get people hooked using the video game (and then obviously Space Hulk might lead to actual 40k armies, just like it did years prior). But no, like with everything it's just another quick cash grab that they apparently want us to forget about very quickly (kinda like 3rd edition Space Hulk actually), something you're supposed to play through once and be like "Yeah, Space Hulk, I remember that. Too bad it's super rare and $300 now or I'd get a copy for nostalgia's sake."

Space Marine was a very good game. While not technically a FPS, it was close enough. It's a shame they fractured their player based with pay-to-play maps and it came out a mere couple weeks before BF/COD.

I don't mind there's smaller games coming out. 40k universe is so broad, there's plenty of room for everything. It would be really fun to see versions of BFG etc. as tablet-friendly (but pc-compatible) games.

Hard to say what it's gonna be like, since there is very little info available. It might even be turn based, who knows! Even in a real time shooter, if the Terminator armor is modelled as really slow and bulky, it might bring something fresh to the old-school shooter genre. For example, World of Tanks has been successful as it's brought something fresh into multiplayer shooter genre - in WoT's case, tanks are slow to maneuver and there's a long reload after each shot, so you need to use some different tactics to get the job done.

I would actually quite like that. Movement is slow and heavy, huge amounts of enemies to deal with at a time. Heavy impacts sway the camera as you are rocked back, but stay up due the termi armour.

Having played E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy I'm kind of hopeful. They have the style for a 40K game nailed, but as has already been mentioned; they need someone else to do the script.

The Space Hulk hybrid FPS/Squad-based Tactical games were actually quite amazing and very atmospheric. If a company can do a good job of remaking those, then I'm sold. But I am not convinced that we will get that yet.

But the originals were bloody tense affairs. Still have my PS1 copy of Vengeance of the Blood Angels, lovely game. Hmm, I wonder if both of 'em are on GoG, I'd love to replay the original again.

I'm going to guess that you never played the original AvP as Marine.

...and it will be, almost by definition, a corridor shooter.

Or System Shock 2, Dead Space, or Doom 3, all of which did good things with "tight" sci-fi environments.

Of course, you could be right, but it's not a definite write-off. I'm waiting to see more before passing judgement.

Seriously, I hadn't played that game until like 2011, and it's still incredibly tense and atmospheric. If they can capture that same feeling of being surrounded and oppressed by the very environment you're in, I'll be a happy camper.

I played the Marine AvP campaign multiple times, in fact I can still remember almost the entireity of the demo level and I haven't played it in a decade. A Space Hulk game could well play out in a similar manner although it is obviously hard to do effectively as AvP's various sequels have shown.

System Shock 2 worked primarily due to its story telling and I can't see story being a primary focus in a 40k game. I didn't enjoy Deadspace nor Doom 3.

Corridor shooters really need a good hook(and that hook is almost always via the story and how it is told) to be anything more than tediously generic, this is even more important in a scenario with only a single enemy type (although hopefully hybrids will make an appearance.........anything is possible).

My default position on GW's games these days is one of low expectations touched with a hint of cynicism. I think that this position will be justifed with regards to this game.
