You could look up on google the old army desert camo scheme. Either the older version with the chocolate chip pattern on it, or the second one without the chocolate chip pattern on it.
Otherwise browns, tans, even some lighter grays might work as well.

My guard are in a desert scheme, and they're pretty much just kommando khaki on the cloth, with lots of white added in progresive highlights, and a darker deserty colour for the armour. Hope I helped!

I have always been very impressed by people who can pull of the "modernish" desert camo

With desert guard, I generally don't think they need camo patterns, just good desert fatigues. I had a trio of colours suggested to me by Winterdyne that work really well on my haqqislam; VMA Hemp> VMA Sand Yellow > VMA Sand. And I think just black armour on top of it looks pretty good, very dark green even. Just dont think brown armour would offer enough contrast, depends on the brown obviously. Test it out though.

My desert guard were primed a bone/tan colour, then washed sepia for the armour, and mud for the fatigues. The head was then painted kaki and the hat inked red and the gas mask washed with a weak sepia (head WIP in the picture below).
