Hey dakka, just posting my Vindicator that I finished back in July holidays. I'd love to hear any comments or advice you can offer.

Regards.

The weathering is quite sublime.

Very nice. Is that supposed to be rust or mud or dust? (or some combination of all three?)

It looks incredible.

One thing that struck me after ogling it for a while, is that it got very dirty with no scratches. It seems like if you spend enough time in the field to pick up that much grime, you are going to get some dings and scrapes on the paint.

Nice work, I like that it is dirty without being battle damaged. I would suspect they just came back from a patrol or some training. Not everything has to have battle damage in my mind.

A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. I'd have to agree. While I wouldn't expect much damage around the treads or roof, there could stand to be some decent scuffing of paint/scratches along the edge of the scoop. That aside though, the weathering you did was amazing.

I'd have to agree about the dings and dents and scratches that should be there. Also, I think the metalic grey areas such as the engine and gun need a bit more weathering and shadowing. They look a bit flat. But other than those couple of little details, this is a fantasic model. Really outstanding work.

Thanks to everyone for responding! I agree on the weathering, I have in fact applied battle damage - I used a small piece of foam with ultramarine blue (as a quick and easy alternative to line highlighting), then filled in most of the areas with black/brown 50/50. This was done in about 4 hours which felt blindingly fast - having DVDs on in the background certainly helped. What is frustratingly funny is that before the pigment (which is supposed to match the dirt bases for my bikes) I thought the weathering was too OOT, from your comments it looks like everyone thinks it's too subtle or non-existent. I think I'll have to be careful with my pigment application from now on, and my photography could possibly benefit from a little TLC. I agree the metallic looks a little flat, hopefully this is something I can remedy easily. I deliberately left the main gun Un-weathered as I read somewhere that modern militaries may be unconcerned with repainting armour in the field but apparently keep their weapons in tip top shape - or I'm easily persuaded by an excuse to be lazy! Hopefully I can post some more respectable photos in my P&M blog sometime next week. Thanks to everyone again for posting, I really appreciate you taking time to comment and I'll be incorporating your advice next painting session! If you have time please check out the rest of my painting efforts in my gallery or P&M blog.

Regards
