Story behind scathing obituary revealed

Print Story Published: 9/10 5:19 pm Share Updated: 11:05 amRENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – It's an obituary like you've probably never seen before. It’s about a woman who died and is survived by her children who, according to the obituary, spent her lifetime torturing them in pretty much every way possible. The obituary goes on to paint a picture of children who are grateful that their mother, Marianne Theresa-Johnson Reddick, is dead.

The Reno Gazette Journal President & Publisher John Maher tells News 4 the obituary was sent in via a self-service online submission. The obituary appeared in the print edition of the newspaper today, September 10th. The on-line version of the obituary has been removed as the newspaper is investigating the circumstances surrounding the placement of the obituary.

The obituary says Johnson-Reddick died September 30th. News 4 has confirmed a woman with that name died on August 30th.

UNEDITED VERSION OF THE SUBMITTED OBITUARY:
January 4, 1935 Sept. 30, 2013

Marianne Theresa John¬son- Reddick born Jan 4, 1935 and died alone on Sept. 30, 2013. She is sur¬vived by her 6 of 8 children whom she spent her lifetime torturing in every way pos¬sible. While she neglected and abused her small chil¬dren, she refused to allow anyone else to care or show compassion towards them. When they became adults she stalked and tortured anyone they dared to love. Everyone she met, adult or child was tortured by her cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit.

On behalf of her children whom she so abrasively ex¬posed to her evil and vio¬lent life, we celebrate her passing from this earth and hope she lives in the after¬life reliving each gesture of violence, cruelty, and shame that she delivered on her children. Her surviv¬ing children will now live the rest of their lives with the peace of knowing their nightmare finally has some form of closure.

Most of us have found peace in helping those who have been exposed to child abuse and hope this message of her final passing can re¬vive our message that abus¬ing children is unforgive¬able, shameless, and should not be tolerated in a “hu¬mane society”. Our greatest wish now, is to stimulate a national movement that mandates a purposeful and dedicated war against child abuse in the United States of America.

That really sucks-is it worse that the kids posted this obituary, or the possibility that it's accurate? God and the kids know, whether or not they tell the truth is another matter. I guess it'll stay between them, unless somebody recorded things.

Be raised by a Narcissist.

You are their property/slave.

You are not treated with the dignity of being a human being.

The selfish acts they do to small children should not be inflicted on anyone.

The child of a narcissist does not fully realize the full injustice of what happened until you have your own.

If their parent is anything like mine, they showed restraint and made it very positive.

It is hard to be these adult "kids",
no-one is willing to believe you that it is possible to hate a parent,
feel guilty for it,
yet be completely justified
(and still love them to some degree anyway and feel like a sap)

Let us assume it is justified and move on.

The appropriate response is to give as little attention to this person, even after the fact, as possible.
That is what I think was their greatest mistake.

Harsh, but I don't see what they would gain from lying about it, so I would hazard a guess that there was a reason for it.
Still, is an Obituary really the time or place for character assassinations?
I would postulate that it would be more effective to call someone out while they're still alive enough to change (or at least get upset by it!)

Maybe they felt a need to vent, then changed their minds and had it pulled.

I had a great Uncle that was tortured by his mother. When she died, he apparently broke down crying and then said "Thank you God, now I can finally sleep at night"

Nah, it's important for victims to have their suffering recognised. Even if it comes with no punishment for the abuser, just having it recognised and accepted by the greater community can be a tremendous release for the victim.

And more than that, it's these 6 people's story, and their challenge to try and move past it as best they can. I don't think its really up to the rest of us to second guess how they want to do that.

That's actually pretty cool. Under the assumption that it's true, it's good that these people managed to drag this poison out into the light of day. I find it pretty hard to believe that it could be untrue.

If it's been pulled to check whether it has indeed been submitted by one of her children (and will be put back once said checks are done) Fine

Don't speak ill of the dead where there are major issues to address is not a view I subscribe to (though making petty complaints just makes the complainant look bad)

If it's been pulled just because it's (very) negative it's a shame

Well, not having lived in that house and knowing the details, not sure I could classify their complaints as "petty". I mean, for all we know she was putting cigarettes out on their feet when they were kids.

The Reno newspaper reported that she lived in a mobile home with 15 cats

Hopefully it isn't targeting some innocent person though.
