Where do I begin?

I am just beginning to play miniature games, and I was inspired by someone who converted their Tyranids into Zerg. So, I would like to make a Protoss army, based on the newest Starcraft II models.

1- What army list do I use?

Grey Knights make perfect Zealots. Drop Pods would be great Warp Prisms. Dreadnoughts could work as Immortals. Vindicare Assassin could work as a Dark Templar. Librarian as High Templar. Tau crisis suits with jump-shoot-jump as Stalkers. Tau Riptide as Colossus. Tau probes as probes or observers or sentries, depending on their type.

I haven't found any list that would integrate all my ideas, but I have a very limited background to work from. I don't really care about winning every battle, so the list doesn't have to be the most competitive. I mostly just want to charge some Protoss down the throat of some space-marines and Xenos.

2- What models do I use? Head-swap Tau infantry? Scratch-build from foam? Papercraft? I'm totally stumped in this department.

I'm posting this in both the list building and model working forums to try and get both these questions answered. Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

The closest connection from 40k to the protoss would be the Eldar. Very psychic, advanced technology, fast and they come with a wide array of models for proxy that would fit any of your combat roles.

Death is just the beginning, for those who walk the path of Valhalla. Flesh is the stuff of the enemy, transcend it, for only in spirit are the Eldar truly eternal.

I think a Callidus assassin would work better as the Dark Templar due to both having cloaking mechanics. I like your choices for most of the others.

Given your plan for most of the models you won't have access to drop pods. So a Storm Raven would be a good substitute for one of the Protoss flyers.

I've seen a few Protoss themed armies in the past so tracking down the blogs/pictures/creators of those would be helpful.
As would finding detailed pictures of each unit to see what you need to fabricate/source from bits.

It will definitely be a more complex process than headswaps etc.

I would go with Eldar for the codex!

High Templar could be Farseer.

Dark Templar could be a kitted out Autarch.

Immortals as Warwalkers, who have big guns and energy shields to boot

Warp Prisms as Wave Serpents!

Phoenix as the new Flier.

Zealots as Wraithblades! (who can take a 2 sword option!)

Sentries would be cool Warlocks.

Scouts could be Jetbikes!

For other units, you could do Tau:

Stalkers as Crisis suits, like you said.

Colossus as Wraithknight/Riptide.

Observers for Marker Drones.

Probes as Fire Warriors!

Archon as a Eldar Avatar!

Lots of possibilities, can't wait to see what you do

Ask this good man, he has a Terran themed army with Zealots in it

Tau fire warrior heads with the eyepiece and jaw bar filed off then eyes engraved into them for Protoss heads
