I used to really enjoy playing a scouts army. I have about 20 scouts, 2 scout speeders, a unit of scout bikers and a ton of other stuff.
Is a scouts army still viable with the new codex?

Still???? I have yet to see a scout army work yet. Now that the LSS is a dedicated transport it may be more viable.

I would say Scouts are more viable and versatile now that they are cheaper and have a dedicated transport

I use anywhere from 20 to 40 scouts in my iron hands force (pre 6th book) and it did great. Extra great. Beyond great actually.

Yes a mostly scout force works well.

Juraigamer~ what else did you take in your list.

which commander would you all recomend.
In the past i have used a librarian and a squad of marines in a drop pod (the only powerarmored units that i field.).
I have also used a Bike Captain and some bikers.

That depends on your list. If I would have to think of something:
2x5 Assault Scouts in LSS seems awesome.
With the Cerberus you can make the enemy WS1 before charging into them.
Hellfire Shells are really awesome too.

For such a list I would use Ultramarines, and this is why:
-Telion as pseudo-Warlord.
-Reroll all 1's for a turn (or 2).
-Characters!

The amount of TL you can do is insane!
-Calgar can take Storm of Fire and double Tactical Trait
-Tigurius for Storm of Fire and Prescience (I also like his Reserve-manipulation)

For 1500 points I would do:
Calgar (in Termi-armour) joining Assault Terminators.
2x5 Assault Scouts in a LSS (Combat Knife and Pistol for 3 Attacks on the charge)
2x10 Bolter Scouts with some Heavy Weapons
10 Snipers with Telion
5 scouts with an ADL + QG.

That gives you 55 scouts and you still have 150 or so points for more AA, AT or Scout-bikers.
Those 150 points are after I gave those non-CC scouts Camo-Cloaks.
I would really give those bolter-Sgts Teleport Beacons, so you can drop Calgar and his CC-Terminators exactly where you need them.

Might not be a 'good or strong' list, but it seems awesome and I want to try that myself.
Hopefully they'll allow me to proxy some normal marines into Scouts

I want to try my full scout list with the 6th ed rules but need the codex first, but judging by the point changes and all that a scout list seems better now. It has always been quite a struggle to win with a scout list but still fun in my opinnion. Now the struggle is a bit more easy.

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

I would try a master of the forge or techmarines for the bolster defense giving them even higher cover.

"Bring on the Angels of Blood and Darkness as thy descend from the heavens to smite our enemies. Let the Wolves of war rend and tear our foes to pieces. And we of the Bloodmoon Hunters shall bring the iron and fire as our vehicles crush all that oppose us under our treads." - Tech-Captain of the Bloodmoon Hunters

very Viable as an allied force!

Tigirus as the IC HQ, add a techmarine so that you have a second combat capable IC to share with a squad, Scouts, telion and a quad gun.

Add a TFC if you lack ranged barrage, and add a tactical squad in drop pod if your army lacks 'moving forward'.

Space marines are like a magic hat that makes a ton of armies better. They can bring ATSKNF, they can bring ranged shooting, CC death star, psychick shenanigans, Skyfire, deep strike elements, fast scoring, av14.... You name what your list is missing, and you can pull it out of the space marine codex.
