This is my first time making a somewhat playable/practical list, as so far all of my army lists have been very fluff heavy. I'm new to the new Chaos Codex, but my past armies have been slow-moving shooting forces, so I really want to try playing a fast-moving, brutal assault force. I'm trying to avoid vehicles if possible, but I'm not totally closed to the idea of them.

Here we go:

Chaos Lord
Mark of Khorne
Sigil of Corruption
Power Fist
Bike
Unit Total – 145

attached to:

4 Chaos Bikers
Mark of Khorne
2 Bikers with meltaguns (bike-mounted)
Icon of Wrath
Unit Total - 138

Dark Apostle
Mark of Khorne
Plasma pistol
Unit Total - 145

attached to:

9 Khorne Berserkers
Berserker Champion with combi melta, and melta bombs
Rhino with combi-melta, dirge caster, and destroyer blades
Unit Total - 256

ELITES

3 Mutilators - 165

3 Chaos Terminators
Mark of Slaanesh
Icon of Excess
3 Combi-meltas
Chainfist
Unit Total - 183

TROOPS

10 Chaos Space Marines
Close Combat weapons
Flamer
Autocannon
Rhino with dirge caster
Unit Total - 215

FAST ATTACK

10 Raptors
Mark of Khorne
Raptor Champion with combi-melta and melta bombs
2 Raptors with Flamers
Icon of wrath
Unit Total - 230

Heldrake – 170

ARMY TOTAL - 1647

Any advice? (I need to drop 147 points)

you can't list point value for each item, keep the upgrades on the list, just take away how many points they cost

Besides that... Give your lord a bike if you want him to be fast, get rid of 1 squad of CSM for terminators, give your lord axe of blind fury instead of a power fist, get rid of the dark apostle for some chaos spawn with MoN, and try to get 2 rhino's, one for your berserker's and one for the CSM. if you can find any more points, get a troop of cultists just to hold an objective

Sorry, my bad about the points thing - my mistake.

My thing with the Dark Apostle is that when in combined with the Zerks you're getting 40 Strength 5 attacks on the charge that re-roll misses...I mean bajeebus that would be a horde killer. In terms of actual gaming, is it less good off of paper?

All that happens when you combine the Dark apostle with the zerks is that they get his leadership (doesn't matter), and they get to re-roll misses during the first attack phase. Also its 41 attacks for the berzerkers in the first charge.Really a question of whether or not 130 points is worth the re-roll Misses- I also don't know if its Hatred:SM or not (also if it depends if he has VotLW?)

The Dark Apostle confers the unit Zealot, which means they have the Hatred rule. It is nonspecific, so I assume it's Hatred (Everything). Plus the Apostle can do some pretty nasty damage himself.

That's not really what I'd call competitive...

Foot-slogging Khorne Lord with a bunch of Bikers is really derpy. He'd be better off on a Juggernaut, to keep pace, with the AoBF. Keep him up front to soak hits or drop them on other guy if it'd ID him.

If you want a brutal, fast assault force, try:

Huron as HQ to infiltrate infantry units

3x Maulerfiends
1 CSM blob with MoN perhaps joined up to Huron for the infiltrate, another blob to chill on an objective
Couple of Heldrakes and maybe 1 unit of spawn

Maulerfiends ignore terrain and move 12" / turn. They aren't all that amazing when they get there, but they're pretty good for tarpitting Deathstars that are only putting out S5 at best. And they'll be good for eating vehicles.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

At first I was wondering what you meant about footslogging.

Then I checked my list.

Oh God.

What.

Where did his bike go.

Fixed that.

I dunno, I'm trying to go for a tournament list here - it needs to be fun to play, and I've seen way too many plague marine/maulerfiend + heldrake lists. It's not what I'm trying to go for and it's a bit overdone in my mind.

Thanks for the advice though!

For an "In your Face, Melee list" you should take in Spawns with MoN. 12" Beasts, T6, who fleet through terrain. Yeah, you get cover saves, on just a hand full of hits that get through and you will be in there face in no time. Add in two rhinos of melee troops and two heldrakes for air support and they will be locked down in their deployment zone. Put in some Cultist going to ground on your objective and hope for their survive-ability. AND Take in a DP with wings to fly in or charge in behind a rhino, OR Infiltrate those troops with Blackheart.

With Mutilators you can only hope that they go chainfist to powerclaws on transports. BUT with Slow and Purposeful you probably won't assault that tank. The Dark Apostle looks good on paper, but if you dont have a mob, say 20 marines or 30 cultists, then that one attack probably wont get you more points then you put into him.

The Good: 8,000
Ultramarine, Scouts, Blood Angels, Dark Angels
The Bad: 8,000
Chaos, Daemons, Dark Eldar, Orks

that's what I was thinking, Also if you get black heart or someone that gives master of deception, or alternatively do not give your lord any steed of any kind and get that warlord trait, give him infiltrate and join him to the spawn to infiltrate them and then nominate whatever infantry units you have left

Problem with rhinos in an assault style list is you will not be able to assault till turn 3 at the earliest.

turn one move, probably flat out in shooting.
turn two get out, can not assault that turn
turn three assault.........by this time they have shot you or moved away, fliers are on the board shooting too.

Cannock

The Chaos Lord isn't choppy enough, needs the murder sword. Add the brand too if you have enough points.

Ditch the Bikers and add Spawn, they work better with mark of nurgle though. Still not too bad with mark of khorne.

Dark Apostle with Berzerkers is nice, but they should be in Land Raiders so they can assault. Not much of an assault unit if they cannot assault out of their vehicle.

CSM have the wrong weapons; autocannon is ranged anti light armour and the flamer anti troop short ranged. They will be moving to get the flamer in range and the autocannon will be snap firing.
