Hello everyone!
I've been playing for years, but recently (well not really recently, I haven't played or painted in over a year) I had a "break" from the game.
Now I'm getting back into it with a few people and I'm having trouble deciding between tyranids and tau, what are ways to help me decide which army?

Thanks!

well I would suggest giving us more info. whose fluff do you enjoy more? do you want to sit back and shoot blue stuff at enemies or roflcopter charge with hordes of models and a few MC?

Between Tau and Nids?

Flip a coin.

But really it depends on what your looking for.
play style and fluff can help you break it down as well.

Well, I really like both of their fluff which is kind if why it's so hard, I like both armies too much xD
Could someone give me a brief overview of each armies respective playstyle?

Its really Gun line/gundams, to Hoard/gozilla

AKA Tau are a very shooty army and is only good at shooting
Nids can go nidzilla which are alot of BIG Tough MCs or lots of little bugs but both mostly in assault.

What kind of player are you? Are you a shooty or assaulty player? Do you like hordes or small elite armies? Maybe a combination of them all?

Rumour is Nids might be getting a new codex in November or January or sometime in 2014. Do you want to wait till it comes out? Tau just got released a few months ago so will not be updated for some time.

Do you need to win with plastic toy soldiers? Are you a tournament player, or casual player for fun?

So many questions, let us know a bit about your play style.

I say Nids, since I am a Nid player.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

If you're thinking of playing 'nids, personally I'd wait just a couple more months until the (rumoured) new codex is released. I'm sure there will be plenty of new plastic kits etc to buy when it is released.

I wanted to start a space marine force months ago, but heard that they were getting a new codex and plastic kits and decided to hold off and it really paid off. Just some food for thought.

Well im definetly not good enough to be a tournament player xD but yeah i play for fun. With all youve told me about the codex i think i may go Tau, and then start my second army once the codex comes out. that seems to be a good decision IMO

*cough* TYRANIDS *cough* If you want aesthetics then it's basically Kaiju vs Mechs (cough Kaiju cough).

In all seriousness good luck with Tau but you probably won't need it. Keep your guys out of clusters keep to a gunline with fire warriors always.

I like to call MC armies Kaiju but in this case I'm referring to Tyranids in general. Some people say different ways to start up but here's what I say:
Tervigon
At least 30 termagants they're low points and relatively cheap on eBay and Amazon
You'll also want to get a Flying Hive Tyrant and Gargoyles but get those after what I have listed above

I love nids, and would recommend them. Tau are the stronger army for now but nids do have a new dex coming.
