Ultramarine Terminator with Assault Cannon






I've made a slight revamp to the latest list I've been running. I've had a fair amount of success with it in 6th edition, but retooled it a little with the release of the new codex.

OLD LIST
Librarian, terminator armour
Tactical squad, 10 space marines, flamer, missile launcher, Veteran sergeant, power sword, Rhino 35
Tactical squad, 10 space marines, plasma gun, missile launcher, Veteran sergeant, plasma pistol, Rhino 35
Scout squad, Camo cloaks, (4) sniper rifles, missile launcher
Sernguard veterans, 5 vets, boltguns
Terminator squad, 5 terminators, assault cannon, chain fist
Stormtalon gunship, Skyhammer missile launcher
Land raider
Vindicator, Siege shield

HQ changed to Tigurius. Dropped the Terminator squad in favor of more sternguard vets and a few more scouts and flak missiles.

You're really not gaining a lot from CT:UM at all. Your Tacticals are over all the place and with only two Rhinos and one other immediate threat for potential light-medium AT they're going to get annihilated quickly.

1) Two Flakk ML's is a pitiful waste. Take another Storm Talon instead.
2) Your firepower is pretty meagre all around. You would have serious trouble killing most MC's and a Riptide or two would be nigh impossible to kill.
3) Sniper Scouts suck. They suck even more when you've already got home objective combat squads, which is their only use of worth. And don't even breathe the words 'precision shot'.
4) An LR is a massive waste of points as a transport for Sternguard. A drop pod costs a fraction of the points and at that is more reliable at delivering them. Godhammer LR's in general are naff.
5) If you take a Vindicator (which you honestly should not be with this little effective AT and Anti-MC) take them in pairs or triples. They get disabled far too easily and they're always a target priority for your opponent.
6) Sternguard should have heavy flamers or more combi-weapons to make them worth the huge investment.
7) Take Devastators to make most of their doctrine and add the firepower you need.


**8) Never make the cardinal sin of taking plasma pistols or power weapons on Sternguard or Tactical Sergeants. Neither are worth it, neither are intimidating, neither add anything to your list other than circumstantial additional chance that often won't play a factor at all because most things charging those squads will outright slaughter them.

Sternguard in no way require flamers. Or even combiweapons. They do well without them and combinedweps cost 10 points a pop. Unless they are tank hunting you don't need them. Sternguard can hold there own in melee and a guard with a LC can work wonders. but as said swap out the ML

If you're not taking Sternguard for anti-scoring and not for anti-MC duties then there is no real reason to take them other than arguably pointless and wasteful tank hunting duty. As an all round unit they suck.

Heavy Flamers are a no brainer at 10 points a pop. Anything Sternguard cannot already beat in CC will not be changed by much extent if any at all by a Sergeant with CC weapon. 'Works wonders' is a gross exaggeration.

Haha, wow, I didn't think it was that bad, but apparently I have some work to do.

@remedy - I was going to put them in the Land Raider with Tigurius.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll have to go back to the drawing board. I have had some success with the original list though, won more than it lost.
