How does it play? Quick n fun or Super Serious Chin Stroking?
There's a couple of battle reports that break down the Quickstarter rules here, here and here. Also, see this official vid for an idea on how the game plays:
In terms of the game, there is a slight learning curve, but once you've got the basics down it does flow nicely. Some of the more unique rules include; monsters get weaker as they take damage (they loose attacks for one and it becomes harder to perform certain actions) and Sorcery costs you constitution (equivalent of wounds) for each spell cast. So you can cast loads of magic, but there's a chance you could kill your Mage as his life force drains away. Finally, even though the monsters can be huge, never underestimate human sized infantry. They may be weaker, but there's more of them and they are a lot more skilled. The rules are free to download from the site.

I'll get researching further, but I reckon I'll be pledging.
No problem bud. At the end of the day, even if you don't like the rules, you'll at least have a set of very nice Dark Age themed miniatures that you can proxy elsewhere.
Don't forget to pop by the Kickstarter comments if you have questions or want more info on each of the Kindreds. What's taking your fancy at the moment?

if you end up getting into Darklands as a game rather than just for the minis it would be worth looking at the rest of the models for the kindreds (factions) you're interested in to see what appeals more across the board
Is there some story reason for that girl fighting with her ass out in the wind?
Here's the backstory for the original:
The manner of Æthelglyth's rise amongst Meloda's Gesith has led many to call her wælcyrge, a chooser of the dead brought from legend to reality, or maybe a sigewif, a victory-woman, that decides the fate of those who covet her queen's head; simple scare-tales she nevertheless takes care not to dismiss, for is not reputation the chief weapon of the warrior, and indeed the warrior-maiden? Æthelglyth herself allows none, not even Meloda, to know much of her, of her childhood nor her adult life, and thus Mierce as a whole knows little of Æthelglyth except for her deeds, the speed of her axe-swing and the silver-quick of her blade, the strength of her anger for the rabid Ysians and the perfidious Northumbrians, the crazed strawhairs and the painted warriors of the far north. Of Æthelglyth, one thing is certain - an enemy of Mierce is an enemy of Æthelglyth, and whilst she may be slight and her years young, her battle-skills - as well as her avowed beauty - are bewitching to all that can see with clear eyes.

It worries me a little that the Byzantii are in their second KS now without actual models existing. Are the Brythoniaid in the same place? Are those renders or actual models?
I suppose it isn't that big of a deal, but it's been a long time at this point. One wonders when they will get done.
