I'm easing into both 6th edition and orks. That being said, big mobs and big guns are edition-proof.
748 Points
Big Mek with KFF: 85 points
3 big guns (kannons) with 6 extra grots and runtherd: 97 points
30 Shoota boys, nob with PK and BP, 3 big shootas: 235 points
30 slugga boys, nob with PK and BP: 220 points
8 lootas: 120 points
I guess the idea is that the boys rush forward, protected by the mek's KFF while the lootas and the kannons slug it out with whatever is shooting at them.
Comments? I plan to add 2 more mobs, more artillery, lootas and maybe some dreds/kans and grots to grab objectives.

yes please run the big shoota wielding walkers guarded by shoota boyz that I don't run because I want to make an assaulty army with my assaulty stat lines first. I would love to see it.. Really throw the boyz out, and maybe we need more input here, but put them in trukks for the AV10 saturation amongst your walkers. Include some more big shootas on those trukks.. put it all behind an ADL with every loota and (AV10 saturation) dakkajet you can cram on a list.
EDIT; Sorry guy below me is right.. if someone puts an AV14 out there your gonna hate your game.

damn, 72 bodies in a 750 pt list. If I had to bring anything in a game against this I would just sit in a landraider.

And then your land raider would get punched out and the 72 bodies would kill you. I don't really see anything wrong with this list. Quite frankly the only reason you don't see armies with 4-6 mobs of boys winning every bloody tournament is the wall of having to paint/move upwards of 250 orks running around the table. Few armies if any have the firepower to clear out THAT many orks in the 2-3 turns they'd have to kill them all.
I like the list, at 750 it should be very effective if for no more reason than the fact you will likely outshoot and out assault any other army you run into with sheer numbers. 30 shoota boyz is more effective shooting than marines (except maybe imperial fist marines) on average and still deadlier in close combat.

A warboss on a bikes with a nob bike squad seems like a.lot of points running around trying to deal with tanks.
I guess it's a wait for the codex situation. Or wait for the pendulum to swing back to assault in 7th edition.

You're right about points.. it was the first time I brought Biker Nobz and he brought a BT Rhino list that I only outnumbered 3:2. We ended up tying on account of horrible 5 dice 3+ role I had while my bikerboss dueled grimaldus. 5 hours later we tied on turn 7 due to the fallout.. else he might have conceded on turn 4.
I think if you want to compete you take some form of boyz that squat at an objective and all the dakka you can slam into the points requirement.
750 points? KFF mech with a couple of boyz squads can do mean things..

It isn't unfortualately. Lots of armies have cheap expendable or expensive powerful melee units that will be able to tie up your mob in cc at higher points games. for example, an iron clad dread (or even a regular one) will take a whole blob, even with a warboss out of the fight, regardless if you charge or not. But in small games, such a model count will mean that you will get to squishy targets fast. In smaller points games there usually aren't unit for unit strategies, just general tactics.

It's an old codex but if you are me and you are learning the hobby then getting a new codex in 6months to a year is awesome.. Please.. you don't have to assault in this Ed like we are meant to.. but collect orks. They will be interesting soon.
EDIT and mind you this codex seems to have aged well.. My buddy just got a codex update and he still can't deal with me in small games.

I've been in it since 2nd edition and this edition feels pretty weird to me. I don't understand a lot of the rules choices they made. Assault seems very unwieldy.

Its an awesome list to start with
What I'd change is go all out shootaboyz
I also dont see the point in the runtherd with the big gunz, at 750 I'd even drop the extra grots since you probably wont need the extra woulnds

Never go for kans in this ed they look tempting but are not worth it for future use.
Also since ur at low pts pks are ok. But otherwise in big mobs never take pks. They cost to much and are gonna be ur bullet pit

I'd suggest two squads of shootas instead of one of each, and get more lootas, id suggest dropping the kannons, they arent really needed, id just get as many lootas as possible, 10-15+ 60 shoota boys is gonna hurt

If I dump the Kannons how will I deal with any tanks? I'd have to maneuver a nob into combat with it without getting tank shocked.

Green Tide is fun and effective at low points, at higher points its still very scary though it gets rolled by certain lists - the main problem is that 200+ models on the table just sucks the fun out of the game!
Don't take S8 to deal to AV 14. Orks can only kill that level of armour up close or from behind.

Newbie ork player here as well.
I don't like the big choppa option over a pk. I don't want my 30 boys being tarpitted by some dreadnought thing because my nob couldn't kill it in several assault phases.
My main opponent plays CSm and if I can take out his raider then the whole game gets a lot easier, even if I have to sacrifice a whole troop to his terminators or berserkers that are about to pop out of it. I used to run a small 5 stormboyz w/ nob pk, but he started blasting it first turn and getting first blood.
Even at low points I almost always want 3 troops. The average mission has (I think) 3.5 objectives. So to make 3 troops I would either go 3xtruck boys, or just throw a small 40 pt of gretchin and hold them in reserve to run on and grab a back objective.
Shootas over choppas.
Lootas over kannons.

Hence the PK nobs? It seems pretty unfair to essentially lack any effective way of beating AV 14.

Play the mission, play the mission, play the mission.
Landraiders aren't all that killy considering how many points they are. Landraiders also can't score objective (except for 1 mission type). Odds are that you can avoid it, play the mission, and win.

3 landraiders with heavy flamers is just one way to troll orks ^^
Edit: Orks cant handle av14 effectively. Nothing more to it.
