I finished a Dark Eldar Raider not too long ago and posted it on my Facebook wargaming group. Here it is:

But some of the feedback I got made the comment that the sail drew the eye away from the rest of the model too much, and that it should be broken up with some kind of symbol - at the time I thought they had a point.
After a few bouts of experimenting and feedback later, we got to this symbol for the Kabal of the Manly Tears.

And after looking at it, thinking about it and sleeping on it, I came to the conclusion that it had kinda ruined the original aesthetic I had achieved with the model. I'm looking to get as much feedback and opinions on this matter as possible, my Facebook group has already suggested making it bigger, more stylistic and without skin tone colours, but I am very tempted to wipe it clean - back to the orange it had before. All advice is welcome, I swear I'm losing hair over this.

I prefer it the original way. That little symbol is doing exactly what they complained the orange was doing.

If you're looking to break up the large area on the sail I'd recommend a large Dark Eldar Rune in Black.

Indeed - my current train of thought is to place that little symbol on the banner/standard that can go in the stern, it would be sufficiently out of the way and optional - so it can be removed if even that doesn't work.

you could also paint that symbol onto the side of the hull rather than the sail. I think the sail is nicely eye-catching without the symbol, but the hull is pretty dull. putting a splash of color on there might help break up all that gray/black.

I think it coul wouk if you mad eit bigger and just the black outline, or do a white version on the hull rather than the sail. I think it is the use of colour on an other wise very limmited pallet that throws it off.

On another note, loving the reast of the model!

I'd like to see some black stripes on the sail, kind of an opposite to the orange stripes on the hull/armor. That might be fun.

The symbol looks like an Eldar symbol and is far too emo for these warriors IMHO, who don't want to be called the crying cabal.
I'd also go for a black DE rune or black stripes.
