as i am expanding my board i'm in the difficult position of having to say what i want for christmas. I bought massacre for my HH stuff already and i own a sizeable amount of DKOK so i'm looking for a super heavy to accompany them for the odd larger game i may play (self imposed lord of war/25% max points on SH - no D weapons)
what would be a good choice as i like the majority of the FW SH vehicles.
I play terrain heavy city boards and looking at using DKOK assault brigade builds i'd like something that follows the fluff with them.
Anybody used a malcador defender or are the more expensive variants much better choices? I do like the Gorgon but the points cost for getting my troops down the high street of my city seem an unworthy waste of points when cover is in abundance. whats your thoughts? i already have a warhound but i want something sub 500pts tbh

The Malcador (of any variant) is worse than its points in LRBTs, don't buy one unless you just want a cool model to paint.
The Gorgon is pretty much useless, you pay a ton of points for a very slow transport that can kill an entire platoon at once when it explodes.
The Macharius Vulcan is always a good option if you want to make marines go away, and pretty fluffy for DKoK.
The Stormsword is very fluffy for an urban siege list and kills entire units in a single shot, but over your 500 point limit once you add upgrades.
The Minotaur isn't a game-changer, but it's pretty point-efficient artillery that doesn't die if you look at it too hard.
And when in doubt, buy a Marauder Destroyer.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

minotaur would be a good addition to my pure assault brigade and when i use my siege list it would compliment it entirely.
I do have a soft spot for the crassus - making it look like a WW1 transport is difficult but it may be possible as looks are important to me.
anybody used the big flame malcador variant at all? i know its maybe not cost effective but if i end up against a hordes list on my own terrain riddled board it may be worth the sink?

alas its to accompany my DKOK and my girlfriends budget wont stretch as far as a thunderhawk for christmas.
the more i look at the crassus the more i like it and with a DKOK driver/gunner and a little barbed wire i think it'll fit right in.
The thing thats bugging me is given my self imposed rules that the SH should only equate to a certain % of your army and no D-weapons allowed - what would you bring? The crassus will aid in getting me 2 extra VP's with the forlorn hope rules but unless its equipped with lascannons all round i may be bringing a spoon to a knife fight. i dont have the Apoc book - what would be my likely SH's that i need to worry about?

I have a Stormlord and that thing is a beast. Counts as open topped for models shooting out of it and assaults, but not for armor pen rolls. Transport capacity of 20. And those megavulcans mulch marines. Throw the heavy flamers on the sponsons and you have a terrifying assault vehicle.
Only have mine base coated at the moment. In fact this post has motivated me to finally paint that thing once I get home.

this is what deters me from playing apoc - it turns into a game where the person with the largest amount of money to drop on Super heavies wins. I'm still after playing an enjoyable game but not one about who can urinate the furthest in the yard.
i've not played with super heavies before and was after something that wouldnt change the dynamics too much so things like Praetors/Crassus/Malacador variants and Minotaurs would be in. If i was to go in to apoc properly my first port of call would be 9 x earthshaker seige carriages at only 675pts.

I've two Macharius and they work really well for their points. The Praetor Armoured Assault Launcher is pretty awesome and laying down lots of templates. A ton of artillery would be pretty fluffy for an assault army and a good alternative, 3 medusas and 3 bombards would be pretty evil to deal with.

That is actually not the case at all. Those super heavies tend to blow up very easily in Apocalypse. There is just so much fire power on the table.
Honestly, you are almost always better off spending the points on normal units and formations if you are looking for optimization.
Your siege carriage example is a good one.

Well, I'd opt for a Shadowsword, the only Baneblade pattern tank which has a TK cannon. Its fun to play.

obviously a lack of high points games is showing. i wasnt aware that SH tanks popped pretty easily. back to the original points though - my girlfriend asked me what i wanted for christmas and i was thinking a super heavy (i tend to buy DKOK models regularly and have around 3k so far inc artillery carriages). I'm in the process of making my 4 x 4 board a 6 x 4 so wanted something suitable without being OP for a 6 x 4 board/2,000-2,500pt game.

DKoK, as I understand, are partly responsible for the success of the Macharius SH tanks, so that would be a fluffy choise. The question being, which Macharius? I personally like the Vanquisher variant.

I'd go with the malcador tank series if you're adamant on the sub 500 point stricture.
If not, stormsword. Because... it's a fething stormsword. I'm sure your DKOK would thank you for it.
