It's the WD one from 5th edition, finally available and featuring some new things like Warlord Traits and the like. No new models unfortunately.

We've already seen some of this, too. The Rosarius became cheaper and BSS can now be five woman squads.

There's also the re-working of the faith system, which Cruddace said was with the goal of addressing its scaling issues. The "Martyrdom" special rule on the Canoness could well tie into this.

Looks to me, like a grand attempt to sell off the remaining Metal minis they have in stock.

Its either a test of the waters before a real dex (gw? Nope) or a really bad attempt to keep sisters players from quitting outright when told no real codex is coming until 7th ed, and the middle of it at best. Oh well.

there is a picture of an actual sisters of battle codex book on the gw website so i assume it's coming out in hardback.

It just links to the pre-order for the digital version. I don't see any suggestion that it's coming out on hardback anytime soon.

Cruddace did say that it will "probably" get a hardback release if it sells well. Note the quotation marks on that, though. The guy wasn't 100% sure.

I believe the rumor from Cruddance was that if it sold well it wouldn't just get a hardback but also a better supported release. They're using this digital release to gauge the degree of interest... And presumably how much support to give them.

The digital preview pictures are already available and show new artifacts, warlord traits, and apoc formations. The desription of the product also says it will contain missions. Pretty much confirmed. No one knows exactly what is being added, though.

No. That's not what he said! I keep seeing people posting this around the Internet, and it's not true. He said nothing about the digital edition deciding if they get additional support, just that the digital edition selling well would likely get them a hardback release.

Additionally, I doubt that further releases for us hinge on the success of this digital edition. We know that they've tried to make plastic Sisters in the past (reliable rumour source sighted some prototypes in 2011, and obviously they mist have tried if they found out about the modelling issues), so obviously plastics are something that they want to do. They're likely aware that the Sisters are still awkward to collect due to their expensive, webstore-only models, so I doubt they would solely use this to determine if Sisters get any further support. It's just that, until those plastics are ready, this digital codex is all they can really do for us..

I can understand this. But at the same time, I think this mindset can sometimes lead to a warped view on things. Surely, when a dev says that we will "probably" get a physical release of the digital codex, it's odd to meet that news with assumptions that we will not get said physical release? Just because we've had a difficult history doesn't mean that the pattern will inevitably continue.

No, but it does mean it's not a solid assurance, which means even if it is going to happen... delays will happen first.
