Seriously. That guy was awesome.
The first thing I ever saw from 40k (or wargaming in general) was the release of the 3rd Ed Tyranids codex, and I've been hooked on the hobby ever since.
Thanks, Andy. My past 12 years of miniature gaming are mostly your fault.

Andy Chambers is brilliant and smarter/better looking than anyone working for GW. I like his writing a lot.
However, those qualities allowed him to destroy everything. Ultimately, everything about this game is bad because of the things he did, and it turns out he is Horus.

If you miss him, play Starcraft.
Chambers is currently the Creative Director of Blizzard Entertainment, with which he has most recently worked on StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

Like you, Andy was one of the core inspirations for me to get into this hobby years ago. I would read his white dwarf reports and they got me excited about the game.

I still remember his smug mug in the 3rd ed rulebook, in that battle report with Jervis. He wrote one of my favorite 40k short stories (Ancient History) and wrote a lot of Chapter Approved rules that have since become standard in 40k. I definitely miss the dude.

I miss him pretty bad. I liked him not just for his work in 40k, but even more so for the rule set he wrote for MGP's short lived Starship Troopers wargame. That was the fastest playing, most interactive (there was very little "I go you go") and enjoyable wargame I've ever played. Shame MGP ruined it. But I digress, yeah, I miss his work. Chapter approved was awesome!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |

I'm curious what you mean by this. Care to elaborate?

Oh yeah...that was the whole "space marine vs eldar" thing right? With the mission where you had to hold table quarters...critical hit to the nostalgia right there.

He went to Blizzard? Huh, in fairness it was probably a hell of a pay rise. Maybe I will give Starcraft 2 a try after all

Yep! And the Ultramarine captain was named Sicarius if I recall correctly, long before he was a named character.

Starcraft 2 is great. I loved that game, both the single player campaign and the twitchy, fast-paced, and kind of nerve-wracking multiplayer. I don't know exactly how much Chambers had to do with it, but it's worth playing regardless.

I think that happened a lot back then. Ghaz, Nazdreg, and Tycho were all created the same way iirc. Funny all the talk of "forging a narrative"
Now when it used to come so easily to them back then.
